The Kurdish led, American allied, Syrian Democratic Forces are NOT mercenaries, they are the army of the DAANES/Rojava. The mercenaries are the Turkish proxy militias, i.e., ISIS and Syrian National Army/SNA.

HTS,the primary militia that is taking cities as they head south for Damascus were told to leave the Kurds alone. The SNA have been told to attack the Kurds at Erdogan's behest. The two militias are only loosely allied against Assad, with the SNA militias taking their orders from Turkey.
