Practical Ecologist and Filmmaker who probably spends a bit too much time building deadwood habitat. Currently working to bring reptiles, amphibians and small mammals back to Hackney Marshes.

Join Ian Phillips of @renatureldn.bsky.social and urban ecologist Akash Barua. Alongside short films about the stunning wildlife that can be found across London we will hear about ecosystem restoration and how some species are returning to the city.

A shameful act of habitat destruction, needlessly felling this ancient oak tree.

You wait over 20 years to see a band, they play less than two minutes walk from home and the gig ends in beautiful chaos.. Happy Days!

Two Foxes.. These Foxes are partly hand reared, I don’t recommend hand feeding foxes or any wild animals even if you ‘know’ them.

Look at that little face! One of many Short-tailed voles relocated during Hackney Marshes grassland management.
Great to have this species back on site after years of it being absent. We've also helped Wood mouse & Common Shrews recover, now Kestrels have returned & Weasel numbers have increased.

New wildlife habitat building in progress with on Hackney Marshes.

Sometimes balancing small mammal species recovery & grassland management is tough, creating habitat refuges and cutting grass in a slow methodical way, then relocating animals by hand delivers the best all round results. We braved the cold & rain to ensure this vole & others moved to a suitable home

One of the last Common Toads seen on Hackney Marshes, found while clearing up some rubbish back in 2020. Next year we'll survey the surrounding area, continue building habitat and hopefully see this species return. #herpetology #toad #hackney #rewilding
