Yes, second clutch therefore smaller. Still wonderful to see the young make it with our help. Fascinating birds with complex lives, facing multiple challenges that immediately need creative solutions (which we are trialling and studying).

Luckily, all nestlings of this late clutch of 6 fledged successfully (with one egg unhatched) but the situation on the ground is gloomy, just like you say Richard, and the future of WT bleak, as it stands.

We have a project over in Poland in an area where they are quite scarce. Luckily with nest boxes they aren’t particularly fussy as long as they have enough space.
