“Phenological mismatch” — 🌤️ As our climate changes & individual species adjust their behaviors to adapt, their connections w/ other species (also adapting in their own idiosyncratic ways) come undone. We’ve seen it on land for years, but new science is revealing it in our oceans, too. Frightening. ☠️

Some good news for nature-based solutions to rising sea levels along the Jersey Shore!

Kudos to @littoralsociety.bsky.social and so many other groups that made a watertight case against massive tidal gates in Barnegat, Manasquan, and Great Egg Harbor.
The US Army Corps of Engineers was tasked in 2013 with finding ways to manage future flood risk in NJ. Initial work led to plans for massive storm surge barriers along the Atlantic shoreline. However, a new study provides a different roadmap. Learn more: www.littoralsociety.org/blog/five-th...
