Silver Leafhopper found on Wildern Moor on 11th June. It's a new species to Wildern, taking our invertebrate numbers to 1538 and taking our new species numbers to 290 for 2025 @insects.bsky.social @lgspace.bsky.social @greenhampshire.bsky.social

This Silver Studded Blue was spotted on 23rd June and is our 30th butterfly species for Wildern LNR. We thought it was a Chalk Hill Blue but experts have advised us of the true identity @ukbutterflies.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @greenhampshire.bsky.social

Another new species for Wildern found on 11/8 at Wildern Moor, a Silver Leafhopper. This find takes our invertebrate total to 1438 and is our 290th species for 2025 @insects.bsky.social @greenhampshire.bsky.social @britishnatureguide.bsky.social

Three reasons to avoid cutting back dead stems and seed heads this winter:
🐞 Hollow stems provide homes for hibernating insects, such as lacewings and ladybirds
🌻 Birds feed on seed heads like teasels, sunflowers and thistles
❄️ They look good when dusted with frost or snow!

From June 1st, this picture shows a new Hoverfly species for Wildern LNR, a Pale-sided Epistrophe. It's on an Umbellifer in Hogsty Mire. This takes our total of recorded hoverflies to 117 @greenhampshire.bsky.social @lgspace.bsky.social @britishdragonflies.bsky.social

This is a Resupinate fungus, a Crust fungus, known as a Tear Dropper. It was spotted on a Willow on Wildern Moor on 5/11/25. It's our 322nd new species for 2025 and our 2107th species in total @greenhampshire.bsky.social @lgspace.bsky.social @bigmeadowsearch.bsky.social

Please don't cut back shrubs and hedgerows until wildlife has taken all the autumn berries! Hawthorn, for example, is a fantastic source of food for birds - including blackbirds, thrushes and (if the weather gets very cold) waxwings.
