The EU is at a critical crossroads, revising a future-proof REACH and adopting an ambitious universal PFAS restriction

Today, more than 100 organisations launched the #StopPFAS manifesto, urging EU leaders to support a universal PFAS restriction – not just partial bans

💚 Reason for hope - Regulation works:

@ylaleena.bsky.social Executive Director of the @eea.europa.eu, who had previously tested her blood with @eeb.org, showed a decline in PFAS levels, reflecting trends observed among the European population for restricted PFAS.

💡 Why it matters?

PFAS contamination spares no one - people or the planet

New “replacement” PFAS keep building up, proving partial
bans aren’t enough

’Cleanup could cost the EU €2 trillion over 20 years - prevention is far cheaper

🔎 Findings briefly:

- Between three and eight PFAS chemicals were detected in the blood of all EU officials tested

- Half of EU leaders tested exceed levels linked to health risks

- Six PFAS (PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, PFNA, PFDA & PFUnDA) are already regulated in Europe - yet still found in their blood
