Not having to use it isn’t the point, we appreciated that Serif (now Canva) avoided AI by and large for Affinity. Pursuing it as part of their business model gives the impression they’re okay with the abuse of artist’s work that genAI is responsible for and are just as bad as Adobe.

I don’t like the risks and complications inherent to piracy these days. Folks can say skill issue or whatever, good for them if it works for them.
You’re still tying yourself to how Photoshop works though. It’s really difficult to break away from when you’re years deep into habit with it.

I read the information. Disappointment comes from them pursuing implementation of a technology that is considered to be unethical to creators, regardless of paywall. It says a lot about the company’s lack of awareness of the creative landscape currently.

Be less patronising next time please Alex.

Their GenAI model is probably based on an existing service (as most are). They have an option to turn off AI training based on user actions (NOT art) in their settings so they’re most likely training an assistant on that.

It’s a little beside the point though, Adobe’s doing just as bad or worse.

Yeah I used to get reachouts from folks seeing my folio on AS pretty often and it's been dead quiet since I've hosted it other places.
We gotta fight AI but taking yourself out of the game for reactive performative bullshit ain't it.

I left Artstation for their AI policies and have since had a 100% reduction in work offers. I left Gumroad and have had a 100% decrease in passive income.
It's not worth kneecapping yourself because a service adopted AI. The digital art world sucks right now but we still gotta live in it.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I can't imagine how tough it all must be. Thinking about you and yours in this time of grieving ❤️🫂

Most folks in the industry seem to be there or have otherwise returned because few other options exist.
I like Cara but no one’s posting there and clients/non-artists don’t know it exists.
Being able to rely on lesser-known social media is a rare privilege right now so I can’t blame them.

It was becoming unbearable in my own work. I wish we also had this filter for reference directly from clients but alas.

Yes! The problem is the environment and that “solution” changes nothing about the environment, just the target.
That target is also biased; shorter worse-looking games are what indie gamedevs want, not what the average gaming audience actually wants and buys.

Ah yeah great point! I hadn’t learned at the time that ngons create sparseness and tension pulls away from the centre of the face, pulling the verts closer makes total sense

I love this example because it's such a great ambassador of that argument AND it's easy to use. Most times ngon edgeflow is a bit too much of a mindscrew for me but this one's quite straightforward.

Also gosh this guide is awesome:

@oddenough.art wondering what occasions you would/wouldn't recommend this for.
To my knowledge it wouldn't do well with strong deformation around it and the "3 edges define a curve" principle needs to be considered but you always have such good thoughts on this stuff.
