@mogsymakes.bsky.social @michaelharker.bsky.social Had a nice game of #Midgard, to celebrate the 958th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. The Saxons repelled the Norman knights' somewhat haphazard attacks, and a counter attack at the end of the game drove them off almost completely.

Victory for the valiant Poles - by a hairs-breadth. By the end, both sides were making wing morale rolls. The Cossacks failed first.

We've had a couple of nights in Krakow on our way home. Missing the camaraderie of @lvkitchen2014.bsky.social , but still on the WhatsApp group! Today we hit Peak Poland: an Independence Day parade, a walk round Wawel Palace, then a concert in a church, ending with a young pianist playing Chopin.

Other volunteers at @lvkitchen2014.bsky.social go further afield. Some go to Kyiv to help with rebuilding; others take deliveries further East - to civilians, or to the front line. Some people bring in vehicles from the West for use in Ukraine and stay to peel spuds.

Another day at @lvkitchen2014.bsky.social. It's not all admiring the flowers and peeling a few spuds (though we did manage a dozen crates). We loaded large sacks of potatoes in one van, and unloaded carrots from another, as well as miscellaneous dry goods from a third!

1/ After work at @lvkitchen2014.bsky.social today we went to the launch of a book about the experience of people with disabilities in the Ukraine. The title "Istorya ne bez nas" might be loosely (and no doubt badly) translated as "No History without Us".

Many of the volunteers at @lvkitchen2014.bsky.social also help at the animal sanctuary in Lviv. They look after wild animals driven out by the fighting and de-homed zoo animals. They also have lots of dogs that had to be abandoned at the station, and they need exercise.

@lvkitchen2014.bsky.social has been putting a lot of effort into a new location. Floors have been laid, equipment is being moved, as have some of the vegetables currently at the original site.

So last night we did something I didn't expect when we signed up for @lvkitchen2014.bsky.social - we went to the Opera to see "The Cossacks in Exile". The whole production was first class. The orchestra played the national anthem, and the audience replied #SlavaUkraini #HeroyamSlava

A nice day at @lvkitchen2014.bsky.social. My first bowl of Bortsch, which was very tasty. Ukrainians are really grateful for the foreign volunteers who come. I'm both pleased and humbled when I get this reaction: Ukrainians themselves do so much towards the war effort, all I do is chop. vegetables.
