Out of the wash and drying! No noticeable red bleed which I am SO pleased about!! The tag is a little worse for wear, which is to be expected - it will disintegrate over time with cuddles. The logo on the foot is also not doing super hot but I'll just acetone it off if it starts to bother me.
Build-A-Bear Stranger Things Demogorgon, unstuffed, fresh from the wash, with no noticeable color bleeding from the red fabrics. Bunny soup. Garlo actually just got chucked straight in the washer because he doesn't have any delicate parts to risk damaging, but I wanted to heat treat Hass to see if I could restore her fur a little more so she got the full handwash soup.

Pre soup for Garlo. You can't necessarily tell JUST from looking at him that he's been cuddled for a straight year, but his brand tag is starting to disintegrate and his hands are juuust noticeably a different colour from his protected arms, so it's worth a wash. Hoping his red fabric doesn't bleed.

I'm not saying Build A Bear SHOULD restuff and stitch other-brand items but boy is it a bummer to see the company no longer do things Maxine Clark used to be so proud of.

Often, people will bring in their old but loved teddy bears that are losing their stuffing. They'll ask if we can add some stuffing and sew them up again. We always say "yes," even if they didn't buy the animal from us. When Guests offer to pay us for this Photo of a book page reading: service, we won't accept their cash. Why should we? I think we're so much more likely to earn their future business and good word of mouth by honoring such an offbeat request. I don't mind giving away a little free stuffing to make someone happy and generate tremendous goodwill for our business.

Because Mini Beans don't require the "making" experience, are a relatively small-ticket purchase, and have a pretty strong collectible identity, BAB has been wholesaling them to places like Hudson Group airport stores, Applegreen convenience stores, and some international partners to stock.

They've started to expand their mini bean collections in those locations. Mentioned Applegreen is a convenience an upscale convenience type of store that we have over 50 locations where mini beans have been placed. And as Sharon mentioned, our international partners, they have stores toy stores where they don't have a Build-A-Bear workshop shop-in-shop yet, and they're able to do mini beans in those locations. So we're starting to see expansion internationally of our mini beans collection on a wholesale basis.

Niche archival thing: great to have this direct confirmation that "partner operated" is the same thing as what used to be called "third party retail" (or third party operated, I can't remember off the top of my head).

BAB is on purpose weighting the price hikes more heavily towards collectors' items rather than the basic bears - which makes sense from a business perspective but does feel a little like punishment for being invested in the brand.

This is a really lol. lmao moment for me because the UK is still paying higher prices adjusted for exchange rate than the States is. Wooloo's bundle for example is $60 in the States but £54 (~$73) here.

Build-A-Bear did not anticipate the bat being the breakout star of the Halloween collection this year. Kinda tracks with their general apparent underestimation of how well high-quality basic animals (like the St. Louis Zoo collection) would perform! Hopefully this is a good data point for them.

We've got two new countries to track: Georgia and Uzbekistan. And Build-A-Bear will finally be returning to Germany this year! 🎉 They were apparently big Champ I fans over there so I hope they either get Champ I back or Vault Champ as a mainstay!

FINALLY managed to finish reformatting my Floppy Pony research for the wiki and using it to split out the ponies as they are actually split and actually released. Now I'm sufficiently finished with 1997-2005 to finally move on to *gulp* 2006.

🔹As you get up through the ranks, BAB's diversity levels change substantially. At associate level it's predominantly women and only around half white, whereas at senior management level it's half men & predominantly white, which I would guess means senior management is mostly outside hires.
Gender diversity graphs from Build-A-Bear's ESG report, showing that from 2021-2023 all job levels shifted towards being more female-heavy, and that senior managers are consistently slightly over 50% male despite all other levels being closer to 75% and above female. 🔹There's a lot of information in here about ethical standards in terms of organizations BAB is a member of. None of it really means anything to me, and I think it's healthy to be skeptical of a multimillion dollar company claiming it's sooooo ethical, but this is still nice to see.
