Have enjoyed making and doing stuff on the first couple of webs thus far. Now working on web-related stuff for a book publisher. I like music. Brooklyn […]

My children are confused -- and somewhat dismayed -- by movies where the credits are at the beginning, rather than the end.

FFS, how do I tell Google sheets that I NEVER want to "beautify this slide" with AI crap?

I already know whether the deck I'm working on is a "presentation" for a broad audience or a data dump for a specific audience, so just back the fuck off, Google.

Also: I will -- to everyone's regret, to […]

I think my spouse just found a ton of oyster mushrooms on a cottonwood tree right outside our window. They are huge and smell like anise.

I would like help IDing them if anyone knows how.

I am now officially "you know, maybe I should just buy one of those electric ear hair trimmers" old.

If you, like me, have entered Guaraldi season in your listening, I highly recommend tossing Masaru Imada's album "Planets" into the mix.

From a conversation with a co- worker earlier today: "none of the current religions actually explain Halloween, really, so let's just enjoy it."

Yes.

This.

If you have kids this age check they have opportunities to make things.

I mean, this is always important. But maybe just a little more.

I guess this is just for other folks who wear contact lenses: every once in a while I realize that I've been sticking my fingers in my eyes every day for forty years, and think that I must be pretty fucking badass.

This is true for me, though YMMV: I hit a point of interacting with our in-house corporate legal team that means I read the "marketing" part of what's printed in bigger letters on every shampoo bottle and think "man, who TF signed off on THAT?"

I don't love The Dark Crystal at this point in my life, but the 9yo does, so we're watching it.

You'll have to pull Labyrinth from my cold, dead hands, though.

And the 9yo and I saw the live- band tour of Labyrinth a few months ago, so she's got full context, and will make her own Fandom […]

Having played a part in making Halloween costumes that included five Zombie Fish, two (movie version) flying monkeys, the Black Knight (Monty Python, with removable arm), and a (late 2000s, Doctor Who) cyberman, I am grateful that the 9yo's thoughts on her costume for this year are "I don't know […]

Playing Legos with the 9yo, while listening to a Studio Ghibli playlist.

We have created an awesome waterfall landscape, and Joe Hisaishi is a genius.

On Monday, Chicago has to make a case to the far right Supreme Court that what Donald Trump claims is a rebellion is, in fact, peaceful protest.

Saturday night: making baked squash and baked ziti, and listening to Yasmine Hamdan.

Autumn is in effect.

They were the right decisions for past-me, certainly, but in hindsight I kind of regret seeing the Dead play live ten-ish times in the late '80s/early '90s, while only having seen Rush once.

I'm a borderline Kiss fan, at best, but losing Ace is still a blow.

There's a game that has many names, but I've always called it "pirates vs. ninjas".

If you're not familiar, someone says "who would win in a fight, pirates or ninjas?"

From there the point of the game is not so much to figure out the actual outcome, but rather to come up with more and more […]

I am reformatting a presentation deck from 2019, because I pulled it up for reference on a current question and immediately said "WHAT WAS PAST ME THINKING WITH SHOWING THIS TO ANYONE?!?"

Do I plan to ever show that deck to anyone ever again? No.

Is it better laid out than when I presented it? […]

This is what a "pickup truck" was 30 years ago.

It didnt have a "hemi' or whatever, nor did it comfortably seat five, it just carried stuff from one place to another, and was relatively cheap and easy to maintain.

Almost exactly five years ago we bought one of those Brother laser printers.

I tried to print something today and -- for the first time -- it didn't just work.

We're finally out of toner.

Sunset today seems to be significant to one or more religion that's common in Brooklyn, based on the number of sirens and bullhorns I'm hearing.

Or maybe Brooklyn is just moving more towards the "celebrate Halloween month, all month," which I totally support.
