They have paper copies of the alert at the station itself!

Actually - there used to be a service alert! It got taken down for some reason, but they had this graphic posted for about 4 days beforehand (and had signs at the station, too). It's one of my home stations.

It's nice that the CTA is doing work to improve Racine as accessibility is sorely needed along the Congress branch, but that's just one station out of 10 - and Racine is only one station away from UIC-Halsted!

Their Forest Park rebuild website (transitchicago.com/fprebuild/) only mentions the LaSalle-IMD and UIC-IMD temporary cuts, which are currently in good shape.
November 20, 2024 at 9:17 PM
The slow zone data on the CTA's website shows it gradually degrading, year after year, with occasional and minor improvements - but that can only go so far, as shown. And their data goes back to 2005!

The CTA's Congress branch (also known as the Forest Park branch) opened in 1958, with most of its infrastructure original. It has far exceeded its useful life and is due for a rebuild, and yet - the CTA does nothing and lets it rot.
