It was on sale and they gave a military discount on top of that, that’s the only way I got a purse for my daughter, that place ain’t cheap!

Am reading this excellent account of the Japanese Navy and it devotes a lot of attention to the conversion from coal to oil in the never ending quest for more steam.

Huge Narnia fan, I’ll have to look for Katherine’s books now! Love Earthsea too, Dawn Treader is my favorite Narnia tale; as an old sailor I’m drawn to island and sea adventures.

Wish the Nagato had been preserved too…and the submarine that sank in 1910, was raised and kept as a memorial then destroyed after the war.

Hello professor, am very much interested in Japanese culture and history( big fan of whales too, my favorite book is Moby Dick!). I was curious in your readings on Japanese Christianity if you ever came across Admiral Shinjiro Yamamoto, a devout Catholic and advisor to Hirohito.

What a great resource, that was especially enlightening on the Marines who resigned when their states seceded.

As a Civil War buff, it’s interesting his two sons served in the Confederate Army. I wonder where General Henderson’s loyalties were and if he would have supported the Confederacy. I wonder too how active he was as Commandant in his last years, he was older than Winfield Scott.

I have that book, I need to get to it soon; I’ve read his excellent ‘Lone Star Preacher’ about a Confederate chaplain. He was a grandson of a noted Confederate officer, he wrote a book on Jeb Stuart as well; lots of Marine/Confederate connections.
