#ReadIn2025 20. The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan. I listened to the audiobook with my spotify hours. Usually I listen slowly. I devoured this in less than a week. I love a dystopia and this was brilliant. Not being a parent I thought it wasn’t for me when it came out. I was wrong.

19. Other Parents by Sarah Stovell. Read this ages ago and forgot to list it. I enjoyed this a lot but it definitely wasn’t what I expected

18. The Cloisters by Katy Hays. This was a bit of a punt for me. I needed a second book for @waterstones.bsky.social offer and it sounded good but not really my thing. I really enjoyed it and it was good! The plot surprised me too which is always good #ReadIn2025

17. Seventh Son by Sebastian Faulks. I love the idea of this book and it really hooked me in to start with. Unfortunately it went down hill and I hated the ending. Do not recommend. #ReadIn2025

Book 16. Together Again at the Cornish Country Hospital by Jo Bartlett. Book 5 in this series. A fun relaxing read.

#ReadIn2025 15. James by Percival Everett. April’s book club read. I read this is big gulps. It was good to read something I could get my teeth into.

14. Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. I listened to the audio and liked it. Different to anything I’ve read for a long time but I don’t think I’ll bother with the sequels.

13. The Best Is Yet To Come by Jessica Redland. I have read a lot of books by Jessica Redland over the last few years. Good for those days when you want an easy read with substance and a guaranteed happy ending

12. Dark Times for the Clarks Factory Girls by May Ellis. I really love this sort of book for a sunny relaxing day in the garden. There’s something about the social history of the early 1900s that just works for me #ReadIn2025

11. The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden. This was for book club. I loved the idea of the book and liked the book but I really don’t think I understood it!

#ReadIn2025 10. Death in the Arctic by Tom Hindle. Listened to the audiobook. Great setting and a fun mystery but I enjoyed Murder in Lake Garda by the same author more.

Adding a book out of order I forgot to list. The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. Really enjoyed this, full on intrigued and kept me guessing.

8. A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers. I liked this and it’s a good read but I definitely preferred her other books more. Interested to see what happens in book two. #ReadIn2025

#ReadIn2025 7. Orbital by Samantha Harvey. I read this for book club but it was already on my TBR. Absolutely beautifully written and a clever concept. I can see why it won the Booker. This is a book about character, not plot which generally I like but I’d have liked to have more happen.

6. Persuasion by Jane Austen. This was a reread but my first time listening to it as an audiobook. I listened to it over 3 days while I had a cold. It made for good listening while I felt rubbish. I enjoy Austen but Persuasion isn’t usually a go to despite being an interesting read.

5. The Household by Stacey Halls. My first audiobook of the year. I listened to it slowly over about 26 days while reading other stuff. It kept me intrigued throughout, even after it ended. The second book I’ve read by Stacey Halls, won’t be my last #ReadIn2025

4. Dust by Hugh Howey. I really enjoyed this series. All 20 episodes of the series and 3 books (all circa 500 pages) in about 2 and a half weeks was a bit extreme and I was flagging by the end. Such a great plot concept though!

3. Shift by Hugh Howey. Book two in the Silo trilogy. I liked this and it was interesting to see how things started if creepy at times. I can’t decide whether to read book 3 next or read something else first.

2. Wool by Hugh Howey. I binged watched both seasons of Silo then immediately turned to the book which I read in 3 days. Very good but very very different to the show. I found the changes interesting, some made no sense others did. I liked it a lot.

1. A Merry Little Christmas by Cathy Bramley I really liked this and may reread it in the future. The third in the trilogy (and having read them all in about two weeks) all the books kept my interest and were good reads. I’m very ready for a non Christmas book now!

A few points. I DNF a lot of books (often due to running out of steam more than dislike). I read a lot of fanfic on AO3. Neither DNF or fanfic will be listed. Audiobooks will be listed.
