I’m not sure if this helps, but I have a super reluctant reader at school, and he’s accepted Looshkin and belly-laughed his way through a good chunk of the first one so far. It’s made a huge difference to his willingness to engage and his enthusiasm and we’ve both found some real joy in it.

I’ve just noticed Varjak Paw is yours - that was an absolute favourite of my 16yo when he was younger and he’s never been big on fiction. Thank *you* for giving him that joy.

Always. Books were an escape as a kid and bring me so much joy now - I want everyone to be able to experience that and it’s brilliant when children find that spark.

Brilliant. It’s on the list of things to buy on payday - really looking forward to it.

It WOULD. I’d dust off my Switch for that (and play in between rescuing the real life Looshkin when he gets stuck on top of doors because he has all the chaos and none of the brains of comic book Looshkin).

Or if you’ve not played it yet, Untitled Goose Game for the Looshkin levels of chaos. It’s great fun.

Kid (13) has really really enjoyed Celeste and Undertale recently - Undertale is worth it just for the music in my don’t have time to game anymore opinion, and she’s been full of enthusiasm for the storyline.

Also told him about the time the aforementioned colleague waved a magnet around her brand new CRT monitor to show her class all the pretty colours it made. Not sure whether his reaction or the ICT lead’s at the time was better 😂

He’s never even seen one. He thought they had 120mb of storage because “that’s tiny”. Not sure whether the noise I made in response to that was a laugh or a howl of despair about how ancient I am. Probably both.

Thank you! That’s really helpful.

That sounds idyllic.

Did they ever stop treating you like an extremist for the radical idea that children should be allowed to play and be creative? I’ve missed so much 😂

Good idea - I’ve actually got some time to sit down and do that today too. I’ve really missed the community feel over there so it’s been nice to find some of the people I followed already.

I briefly went on there the other day to find the people I was following so I could find them here. Spent the minimum amount of time before deciding I’d just have a look for cool education people and hope for the best because just… nope.
