I don’t feel particularly sympathetic broadly speaking (generations being fed megalomaniac nationalism has its predictable consequences) but there’s an almost pleading desperation and grief in folks I’ve never seen before, and I do feel sad for them.

For me, he belongs in the upper echelon of childhood Canadiana – right alongside Mr. Dress-Up. Funny how two American-born creatives with a love for children found their values matched in 60s/70s Canada, made their homes here, and ended up shaping generations of kids like me.

I was a caregiver for a period of time for two relatives both diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. A “juicing cures cancer” scheme came for them — I was able to intervene. Low health literacy + desperate for a miracle, they were prime targets. It’s happening everywhere and a story that needs to be told.

It's almost like the solution is government-funded journalism?? Would they prefer to fund public journalism and pay for civic + political literacy, or erode it to the point that democratic institutions themselves become threatened? It would be an act of self-preservation (points south).

I’d compare this to what it’s normally like in middle of June — and what normally brings people up this far isn’t even accessible yet. RIP to me eating at local restaurants this year it’s going to be a banger.

It's hard to slice in 2025. Social media can certainly turn elections. Debates have become fodder. How effectively? Not sure – but I do think there's a degree of influence in the "second wave" if capitalized on. I submit: "I am incredibly proud to be Pierre Elliot Trudeau's son" from 10 yrs ago.
