“As dozens of frog species have declined, scientists have witnessed a remarkable chain of events: With fewer tadpoles to eat mosquito larvae, rates of mosquito-borne malaria in the region have climbed, resulting in a fivefold increase in cases.”

First, the frogs died. Then people got sick.

Sooo do we think the NDP will learn anything about how to stand for and rally the working class in 2025 from Mamdani?

Today I’m thinking of the two 70-year-old lifelong social democrats from NYC I met on a BC beach, who asked me 200 questions about Canadian systems, and told me how much people have always hated Trump in NYC. They were here looking for hope — think they’ve probably found it now.

Guys, I need to upgrade my Mac for “work purposes” (playing Baldur’s Gate). What’s the latest? I loathe the weight of a Pro and travel a lot — should I just max out Air storage?

American: “Where are you from?”

Me: “Canada… grew up near Toronto but now in BC, on the west coast.”

American: “Oh nice. You’re not Canadian though, right?”

Me: “… yes? I’m from Canada?”

American: “Oh. You sound American.”

Le sigh 🫠

Currently travelling in Europe and the shame levels from Americans are at an all time high, as are the profuse apologies from other nationalities for mistaking me as an American.

Robert Munsch was the author of half of my childhood book collection. He once visited my elementary school to read to us, and years later, when I was studying English at the University of Guelph, I lived just down the road from him. I’d catch myself looking for him in his window, reading.

I’m just going to put this out into the universe that if the NDP wants to survive they need to go call Matthew Green and beg him to run for leadership.

I believe we need to invest in quality journalism as a society. But I question the logic of restricting important public news from reputable sources to only those who already understand its value and can afford to pay, leaving the rest to get information from internet rage-farms.

The human rights framework which protects refugees via international law was largely influenced by Catholics post-WWII. As an ex-Catholic I’ve got a lot of gripes, but it’s nice to see they haven’t forgotten this one.
The first U.S. bishop appointed by Pope Leo XIV—a refugee himself—is mobilizing priests to accompany migrants at immigration court on June 20.

I’m at the Hamilton airport drinking Dark Horse coffee, a barista said I had beautiful eyes, the security agent replied “peachy keen jelly bean” to me, there were no lines anywhere, and I’m about to get shortbread cookies on Porter.

I am never stepping foot in Pearson again!!!

I asked my neighbour’s 13 year old daughter to watch my dog for a few days and suggested she come by tomorrow to chat. Then I got this email from her.

Anecdotal reporting from my little tourism outpost town in BC — based on the obvious influx of tourists in April before the popular tourist alpine hikes are even accessible tells me it’s going to be a VERY BUSY SUMMER. I’m actually a little scared.

Got my son an MMR booster 1.5 years ahead of schedule this morning because of measles outbreaks in Canada. Last week, we learned that Pertussis is currently spreading throughout my community. Is Diphtheria next?

A couple Americans were bold enough to show up to the hockey game being screened at this place in Mexico mostly filled with Canadians last night and one said to me, “Wow, there’s a lot of Canadians here.” And I replied, “Don’t worry, we’re nice……” with a 1000-yard stare.

1875 or 2025… if there’s an economic slump in Canada, we’re going to build a rail!
"Trudeau said the new rail network will run all-electric trains along 1,000 kilometres of track, reaching speeds of up to 300 km/hour, with stops in Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Montréal, Laval, Trois-Rivières and Quebec City."
Trudeau to announce high-speed rail between Quebec City and Toronto | CBC News
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed his government's $3.9 billion six-year plan to connect Quebec City and Toronto with a high-speed rail line, in Montreal today.
