and one that is nigh on impossible to account for in grant applications... in addition to (very welcome) equipment focussed calls, there needs to be funding awards for platform sustenance - no new stuff, no upgrades, just keeping going... and, of course, staffing the platforms themselves!

I'm genuinely convinced that one day we should all be doing long-read sequencing of pretty much everything single cell ... and while growth in this field has been encouraging, we still have a bit of technical work to do before that is a practical and meaningful reality!
