For Bird of the Year 2025 I'm voting for weka, clever, curious, and beautiful manu highly valued by my tīpuna who would travel to the interior of Te Waipounamu and stay for months to gather them for kai, feathers, and oil. #boty

Finally finished and gifted this to my friend. It is made of pounamu and aotea stone fragments and kauri leaves, and is based on te ana whakairo (rock art) by my Waitaha tūpuna at a Waitaki Valley rock shelter (I believe the site was flooded by the creation of the Benmore Dam)
