Hi, my name is Rich, I'm a British baseball fan living just an hour's drive from the home of the father of baseball. I was a member of the Weston Jets team for 8 years, stepping away due to family commitments, but still very loyal to British baseball in all its forms. 1/2
I like politics, I follow politics and I regard myself as politically aware, in both substance and ideology, but politics in the sphere of British baseball can do one.

Hi, so it's been a while. What's been happening? Skenes and Skubal won Cy Young's, the wrong player (in my opinion) won the AL MVP. The LA Dodgers carried on their late 90's Yankee-esque dominance of baseball, and in the backdrop of uncertain political moves we have a WBC. 1/3

Reading that people in Texas and Canada are asking each other if they stayed up to watch Game 3 of the World Series is amusing given that I live in the UK.

I Did, until 4am

Angel Hernandez was CB Bucknor's human shield.

A great start to the season from many teams, the Dodgers amongst them.

Just on the Yankees bats - yes, I think there is an issue here, it's skirting the MLB rules and they need to do something on this, but in the meantime is there anything stopping other teams from using the same kinds of bats?

I'm watching Opening Day with the Yankees leading the Brewers 1-2 in the 5th, and I keep being reminded of the short fence in right field as if we don't already f**king know!

A very happy Opening Day to everyone who celebrates, and my commiserations to the Chicago White Sox for missing out on the playoffs - better luck next year.

I am now a Level 6 BBF baseball umpire. Looking forward to getting into my first game in a few Sundays time.

Trace Thompson is a member of the GB team who beat Columbia at the last WBC and the guy who hit a lead off HR against Team USA.

If you need me I'll be reading the 2024 MLB rule book.

This year as well as scoring and occasionally picking up a bat I'll be (qualifications pending) blue-ing in a BBF game.

I'm convinced that I need to get some more confidence in my swing, my only contact today was placement swings.

I know what I have to do.

A bit of personal news. To make it easier on the league and to brush up on our own intimate knowledge of baseball - and inline with BBF rules intended to improve officiating, I and a few other members of the Weston Jets are going to be taking part in a Level 6 Umpiring Course.

Avid followers of Australian baseball will be aware that the Claxton Shield playoffs are beginning in less than 4 hours on ABL+, Canberra Calvary versus Sydney Blue Sox.

Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner all getting into the Hall of Fame yesterday then.

Great stuff.

I think we knew where Roki Sasaki would be going as soon as the Dodgers were confirmed as one of the teams he was thinking of. Deferring contracts has worked in their favour but Sasaki it should be noted is going on a minor league deal, so won't be getting a big deal - yet.

I just have to say that the @britishbaseball.bsky.social Discord chat for SWWBL over the past 2 days has just been Lit. The South West of England is becoming a proverbial Mecca for baseball in the UK and I'm fully here for it.

Weston Jets stars James Carter and Mike Prince both won awards at the AGM today. Congratulations to them and everyone who won awards playing for SWWBL teams last year.

Here's to an even better season this year.

I wonder what effect social media has had on umpire accuracy. We seem to be quicker to call out missed calls but it seems that at least on this evidence that they've gotten better. That can make everything else in the game clearer and better if this idea wins out. 1/3
Really really liked this from @davyandrewsdavy.bsky.social on how the strike zone has changed over the years

umpires are so good now and people absolutely think the opposite

Wishing everyone on here a very Happy New Year, here's to more home runs, stolen bases, strike outs - and no more than 2 walk off pitch-clock violations.

The Walker Buehler move is much better for Walker Buehler than it is for the Boston Red Sox.

Boy got PAID!!!

Rest in Peace Rickey Henderson, may you terrorise the basepaths in heaven just as you did on earth.

I'm still pumped that we got Bellinger from the Cubs, and relatively cheaply as well. That short porch is going to be lit in 2025.
