until Frank starts really hammering his own offensive patterns which you highlight in the pass maps, i bet a lot of the guys will default to Ange's patterns minus the players and space that made it click

BUT a lot of the build up patterns look the same as last season (i.e. down the wings, trying for cutbacks or back post crosses). except right now, we dont have Maddison or Deki doing the creative running in the middle that opened space to make those patterns dangerous. as a result, we get crab.

my guess is that this is actually a holdover from Ange's build up patterns (I say as a big fan of Ange). there's been a ton of reporting that Frank so far is focusing on defensive solidity, which you can see by us playing deeper and not pressing as heavily. 1/2

oh yeah absolutely early days, it was just funny that you said you wanted to see another example when the only other prem game we've played fit that example

go back and watch the 3-0 Burnley game then
August 23, 2025 at 1:32 PM

cosign amsterdam, best place in the city to watch games. also adding sugarfire to the BBQ list, more for their pie shakes than anything

maybe im being sentimental, but I think Davies started and stayed in this game because it's Son's last rather than LB pecking order

but we didnt get relegated and we did win a trophy - why fret about things that didnt happen? makes sense to me to stick with the guy currently leading a so far successful rebuild rather than starting over once again
June 4, 2025 at 2:14 PM
maybe im inferring too much but "i was asking the fans to cheer when their team scored a goal" feels about as close to a manager saying "fuck you" as possible while still retaining hope for future employment. all of which to say, i think he did stick to his guns
April 4, 2025 at 10:45 PM
definitely still an 8. if we go out in Europe, then fine sack him. but ryan mason is not taking us anywhere so may us well see it out

just saw the athletic named bella-kotchap as a guy in need of a change of scenery. given he was highly rated a couple of years ago, would he make sense as spurs depth? or has the stock sunk too far?

(wishing you a healthier, happier new year as well!)
January 2, 2025 at 3:26 PM
if we had won one and lost two by the scorelines of 1-0, 0-1, 0-1 would you be happier?

i get that the losses sting and we're not playing great defense but also our defense has been decimated for two months. im just not willing to lose my head bc of it right now
December 26, 2024 at 10:29 PM
i mean yeah not a great game but we had an 18 yr old cm at centerback, a 36 yr old statue in goal, and thats the only time its happened all season

if it does happen a few more times then sure ill agree with you but im not going to base my opinion on what hasnt happened yet
December 26, 2024 at 9:49 PM
table and "beaten a few more times by 5+ goals" are very different things. again, we have lost by more than one once all season, never by 5+. no need to make stuff up
December 26, 2024 at 7:35 PM
man we've lost a single game by more than one goal - i get the losses aren't fun but if you have to overexaggerate to make your point im not sure its a good one
December 26, 2024 at 7:04 PM
yeah completely agree. given that newcastle is still inconsistent this year, it's not the most optimistic comp
December 6, 2024 at 4:14 PM
granted i dont follow newcastle closely and dont know how analagous this actually may be, but trajectory wise it feels similar
