I appreciate the timing of this, as this very thing came up during my presentation last week!

Self-love is citing yourself four times in a single paper.

Happy to help! 😃

My guess is that のに has an element of surprise or something unexpected happening. It’s not surprising or unexpected that a test one had to study a lot for was difficult. しても captures the “despite” meaning without implying that the result was surprising.

My mental to-do list now includes finding a Japanese translation of The Winter’s Tale to see how the “Exit, pursued by a bear” line was translated.

Ahh, I could do the sort of things you did with your friend all day. It’s such a treat to set others up to do good work. 😌

The weather is generally nice year-round in LA, so it’s always a good time of year to stand outside and yell at the sky!

Good luck! I was primarily a bus commuter when I lived in LA, and I found it pretty workable most of the time.

I rode the Flyaway earlier this year, and I think the trick is to board at its first pickup spot at Terminal 1 (Southwest terminal). You’ll be waiting on the bus for a while because the bus has to stop and load at each terminal, but the bus was totally empty when I boarded.

I love stationary and office supplies, but I have to be careful to only buy what I’m likely to use. My favorite pens are Frixon gel pens because I love having vibrant colorful ink that I can cleanly erase. They’re also useful for embroidery - the ink disappears from fabric when ironed or blow dried.

The Davita building isn’t far from where this is, so my thought when I first saw it was that it may have been commissioned by them - who else would want a work that looks like a pillar of kidneys?

“Admin day” is a great idea! Especially for updates and tabs - it’s so easy to lose track of those things until they become a problem, which is usually the exact same time when I least want to deal with it. 😅

I tend to use single letters or colors (“red”, “blue”, etc) as placeholder names. The latter allows for unnecessary-but-fun use of matching colored pens if I need to draw/write something out as part of thinking about what I need to do in a process. 🖍️

I want to attend one in person, but the virtual experience has been pretty good! I appreciate the effort they’ve put into the virtual side of the event.

I upgraded recently from first-gen AirPods to the new ones and I really like them! I sprang for the version with the noise cancelling option even though I wasn’t sure I’d use it, but it’s pretty good noise cancelling for a design that doesn’t plug up the ears.

There are some good suggestions here! My program used to use the Pedhazur (1997) text, but they switched to Cohen, Cohen, West, and Aiken (2003) after Pedhazur went out of print. I like having both on my shelf. www.routledge.com/Applied-Mult...
Applied Multiple Regression/Correlation Analysis for the Behavioral Sciences
This classic text on multiple regression is noted for its nonmathematical, applied, and data-analytic approach. Readers profit from its verbal-conceptual exposition and frequent use of examples. The a...

A scammer recently called me and my parents trying to pull off a process service scam. The scammer had a list of my actual previous addresses. My folks didn’t fall for it, thankfully. I strongly suspect the deluge of scams in the last 5-10 years is a meaningful contributor to lower social trust.
