Just one example of the thinking we'd like to see change. These ads got around $4M each in AZ and OH. Party brands are open source. Everyone gets a say. But it's possible the image of the party might improve if we stop spending millions of dollars each cycle telling voters how wrong we are.

Seen a little chatter about how tuned out people are, but in our recent research we've found quite the opposite to be the case. This was from our poll of Biden '20 voters that skipped 2024; we've found similar results in focus groups. Most people (75%!) are paying serious amounts of attention.

The "partisans" (so many questions) are not wrong, moving to the center is not the Way to Win, and hello @nytimes.com Ed Board. Apparently we are at the phase of responding to an argument without responding to the actual argument. Our first time being subeditorialized! Fun.

NEW ADS AND DATA: Democrats are still operating from a place of fear on immigration, but they absolutely have an opportunity to go on offense against Stephen Miller's horrifying ICE raids. This ad, Afraid of Americans, was the strongest approach of the four that we tested.

“We need to go back to being a party that tells the truth. It’s the only way to rebuild the Democratic Party as the party of working people. In this race, the ground is fertile to build power locally and then build that into structural power.”

If the second hypothesis is correct, then going to red state voters with a strong story about why things feel so broken that ties together economic and social issues at least has a chance at working. Even better if more than a quarter of Trump voters already agree.

🚨WORDS DEMS SHOULD NOT USE🚨
The team had an emergency meeting (fine, it was 3 of us on a slack thread) and we realized that it's true, incrementally more inclusive language really IS a much bigger problem than letting the right use white supremacy to take $79T from the rest of us. Behold: our list!

Again puncturing the conventional wisdom, this was NOT a low information cohort of voters. And while racism and sexism certainly were factors with some segments, these voters were generally paying close attention to the race. The message approach the campaign took just did not land for them.

We have a little about what these voters' priorities are: affordability, secure health care, and for the rich to pay their damn taxes. Rs are doing the exact opposite of this. If Dems want these voters back, they should stop talking about how bipartisan they are with things voters hate!
