With the Chapel carefully disassembled and stored, we are ready to rebuild the Chapel as soon as we secure the prospective new site and raise rebuilding funds.
Lloyd Wright, a master of "organic architecture," carefully placed the original Wayfarers Chapel so that the central axis of the chapel responded to the site’s natural topography, skirting the crest of the bluff upon which it sat.

Did you know? While the building of Wayfarers Chapel was completed in 1951, due to lack of funding, the original process to create the campus was done in three major phases. Thus, the project was planned so that it could grow through the years without disruption of Lloyd Wright’s intended vision.

Did you know? While the Hallelujah Tower was built in 1954, it wasn't until 1978 that it became a Bell Tower. The chime bells rang for the first time on Christmas Eve of 1978. Merry Christmas from Wayfarers Chapel!

Did you know? Construction of the Hallelujah Tower was completed in 1954, three years after the chapel opened. In addition, the beam planter walls, sidewalks, and Reflection Pool were added that year.

These species help: Knit the soil together; Slow surface water runoff; Aesthetically pleasing to the eye from the drive. We partnered with engineers and environmental consultants to move soil away from the road, keep the mature trees, their root systems and native shrubs.

Major Preservation Actions Completed: Hydroseeding with native species ✅
We applied a specialized blend of native grasses selected specifically to be native to the Peninsula as well as their ability to offer erosion control, habitat value and low water dependence.

Over the past months, we have undertaken a comprehensive stewardship effort designed to stabilize, protect and restore the ecological integrity of the land that held the Chapel for generations-now referred to as our Heritage Site.

Did you know? Many visitors to Wayfarers Chapel pause before the altar, where the familiar words of the Lord’s Prayer are delicately incised into the stone. Few realize that the words stop partway through. This was no accident.

Following the closure of the chapel in 2024 and with disassembly completed, we have determined that rebuilding on the previous site is not possible to the ongoing landslide. We've found a new prospective location that sits near RPV City Hall on the Battery Barnes military site!

Join us in celebrating our 74th birthday!

The Chapel has been a sanctuary for wayfarers since its first worship service on May 13, 1951.

While we are saddened by the recent developments of the Chapel, we look forward to rebuilding and serving the community for another 74+ years.
