Just realized I never posted the follow-up to the Jacket Project, from May 9th. I finished it in time for my 55th! It's done!
Plum twill jacket on a dress form in front of a curtained window. The jacket has been heavily altered and modified: the sleeves have been removed and replaced with knitted silk ribbon sleeves, the waistband has been removed and replaced with a crinkle polyester taffeta peplum, and godets have been added to give the jacket an A-line silhouette. Floral appliqués in various cotton prints have been stitched on with sashiko stitching, and bits of lace adorn the collar, front closure, pocket flaps, and elsewhere. On the bottom right of the photo, there is an embroidered patch of a wolf in purple and pale lavender. Pinned to the front are a variety of antique and vintage brooches and art pins. So happy with this!
Silk rose with tube of lip balm for scale. The rose is ivory silk that has been dip-dyed in plum. Circles were cut out of the 3 inch strip, then folded over a cardboard tube with the dark edges to the inside. Glue was added to secure each layer. Once the glue is dry, I will also add some stitches and sew on a backing and pin.

From the Build a Bear website, two mint green plush tardigrade stuffed animals, a small one stacked on top of a larger one. They have large black button eyes, and slightly darker "muzzles" with little embroidered smiles. The larger one has three little toes on each of its 8 legs.

Vintage Dexatrim advertisment from a magazine, in black and white, though the paper has yellowed with age. The page feature giant bold text reading "get rid of fat" and "shed unwanted pounds & inches fast" in smaller text. A happy, slender woman in a black swimsuit poses on the left side of the page, and an image of a pulled open capsule is on the right. An image of the packaging it at the bottom, and a mail order form is available: 28 capsules for $4, 56 capsules for $6, plus 75¢ for postage. Historic context: Dextatrim from this era in the ad contained ephedra and phenylpropanolamine, and had a bad tendency to cause strokes due to the raised blood pressure in the people (mainly women) who took it. The ad even warns about high blood pressure. PPA was removed from the formula in 2000, ephedra was removed in 2004.

I'm planning to use sashiko embroidery to attach the majority of the appliqués, with thread that coordinates with the pieces. It will tone down the chaos of the different patterns a little, and unify everything, plus strengthen the appliqués. A few will be sewn on more traditionally.

One large satin back panel has the look of stained glass, and is the image of a wolf in shades of purple, blue, and yellow. The back of the collar as lace appliqués in red-plum and lavender, some of which hang down past the edge of the collar. The sleeves (not pictured, they will be sewn on last), were loom knit from tie dyed recycled silk ribbon yarn in shades of purple, plum, and fuchsia, with vintage crochet lace cuffs in lilac and white.

...but I am now well underway, making my own version of that jacket, *better* because this one is MINE, made for me, by me, with my heart and soul in it. I cannot remember when a single project has given me this much ferocious joy. The Bitch Jacket came close, but this is different.

Our senior dog (Penelope, 14, black and white) and our not-quite puppy (Circe, almost 3, tan) curled up together in the beanbag chair for the 1st time since we adopted Circe 2 yrs ago.

Battle jackets ftw. Here's the one I made in 2017.
Back of a battle jacket with a variety of feminist patches and studs/spikes. Completed after Trump was elected the first time, in protest. The jacket is black faux leather and wool blend. The back patch is art by Stephanie Buscema and reads "The Vixens! Girl Gang Founding Member" with a profile of a girl with a white ponytail smoking a cigarette, eye closed with two black teardrops at the corner of her eye, with crossed switchblades beneath her cameo. Smaller patches are based on WWII posters, modified by me, and some subversive embroidery. Half-inch spikes run the length of each sleeve.

Spent a couple days (maybe 8hrs) customizing Dark Rey into Sooraya Qadir (Dust). Picked a simple one for my first custom #actionfigure. Pretty happy with her.
