Eh even if your cars (plural, this is America) are fully depreciated it’s not hard to get to $7k /year on gas, insurance and pretty basic maintenance. If one of them starts going downhill and needs a transmission or something you could spend that in a year

I really don’t get the people buying new Y’s. This is the most competitive EV segment and even the Tesla fans were unimpressed with the refresh

But my old colleagues (Engineers) don’t seem to have particularly different material lives than me (house, two cars, actually better holidays) and have way more security

That’s also relative to richer parts of Europe, Im not sure that holds if you’re Spanish, Italian or British

My experience is there’s a real tipping point here (I’d probably place it around $150k household income) where inequality starts working to your favor in the US, so like if you’re a doctor you’d be crazy to move to Europe but if you’re on the other side of that line you probably shouldn’t move to US
