So if you read all that, and think that talking to a 40ish gamer dad who likes old bikes would be a fun time, please let’s follow each other. I’ll follow back everyone on this site that follows me. And if I sound like an insufferable bore, believe me, I get it. Either way, lots of love to you. 💚💜❤️💙🧡
Popping out of the weird site again because wow. Anyways, thoughts on Kestrel and Platinum? I haven’t looked into them, but Kestrel is looking like forecasted revenue similar to ESO and flat quarter to quarter, Platinum is looking lower budget?

Video games have taught me which of these are climb-able, which ones are going to fail and which ones may pivot or loosen.

New arrivals at the shop!
November 16, 2025 at 12:05 AM
Was talking with some friends about sequels and the trap they fall into with being “bigger” than the original.

My one friend made a good point. We don’t want *bigger*, we want it *thicker*. Take what made it great and support that with complimentary design and mechanics to get you doing it more.
I agree. A game is an awful lot like a burger: a good one leaves you satisfied, but a great one leaves you wanting more. It shouldn’t be simply bigger to give you more, it should be doing all the things right to make you want it *again*.

Some days you just wanna get high and rebuild carburetors in the shop. And some days you get a little too high to rebuild carburetors in the shop so you lose little tiny parts and look everywhere for it only for it to be in your hand the whole time.

I’ll give you one guess as to what path I took.

@janochoa.bsky.social so all your talk on these kinda made me curious and some American friends brought them by. Wish me luck.

As a fan of the OG Battlefield games, even Hardline wasn’t half bad, but the last couple really missed the mark. That trailer today looks good. It looks correct. But given how the last one went, I HAVE to play it before I will make any sort of decision on it.

Your periodic reminder that, in relation to giant corporate interests, humans are an expense, like utility bills, facility maintenance and light bulbs. When you are trying to save money, you dim the lights, cut back on window washing and fire staff en masse. It’s the beast that is capitalism.

The weirdos are mad because a plastic box that doesn’t exist yet might be able to play Xbox native games and PC games.

Make it make sense.

Of course I have a CT scan at the same time as the State Of Play.

Notwithstanding the fact that I forgot about this game already, this should be a clear message on what to expect going forward. Shipping to PS5 breathes new life into games and that is a good thing for those who make them, and those who play them.

There’s weirdo discourse that this was some DEI driven thing due to Avowed’s “failure”. (I don’t see how it failed).

She rebooted development and made a successful game and got an offer from somewhere else to do that again. That’s how the industry works.
Carrie Patel, game director of 'Avowed' has left Obsidian and joined Netflix Night School Studio.

This is great news for fans of these and Bethesda-adjacent games. This shows there is an appetite for these games to live on through remasters and remakes as a stop-gap between new releases, which are becoming more and more spread apart due to size and expectations.
'The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered' was the best selling game of April in the US.
It sold more units in 13 days rhan the original did in 15 months combined.

$80 games aren’t inherently the issue, or at least the root of it. The root is the “take it or leave it” mentality and the lack of explanation, even a poor, transparent one, on why the game delivers that increase in value to the consumer.

There's an article I never got a chance to write at Polygon about camera controls.

I'm going to write it now that I have nothing but free time, but I need your help! If you could take a minute to answer these 11 questions (or share the link), that would be amazing.

The right thumbstick question(naire)
We all know what directions the left thumbstick on a controller correspond to. Left is left. Right is right. Forward is forward. Back is back. It's the right thumbstick that's contentious, and I want...

Absolutely amazing news!

I still fail to see how Xbox games appearing on other platforms reduces the value of an Xbox.

The games are good (mostly). More people playing them, wherever they may be, is good for the games.

You can play them on an Xbox. Or a PC. Or sometimes a PlayStation or Nintendo.

What am I missing?

The narrative that GTA VI looks *so good* that other games are irrelevant based on graphics and presentation is quite odd.

Graphics are important, to the right game. If a game looks amazing but the loop is bad, it doesn’t matter, but a great gameplay loop with ok-ish looks will hit.

I’m slowly getting more time to do the things I like to do. Returning to work after a year of cancer treatments was a hard shift, and I have been put in charge of operations at work, so I needed to execute on that while also tending to my ongoing care.

But I ain’t done doing my fun stuff!

Lots of love to you. I know whatever you do next a) will be great and b) I’ll be there for it. ❤️✌️
