Well yes, in that they take several snapshots through wavelength filters and then overlap them for color detail. It's not a composite how people usually mean as in "superimposed object from picture A onto picture b". The geometry is unchanged from the original greyscsle

Could the moon not look enlarged because it is closer to the camera than the earth is? I mean my thumb isn't bigger than the moon but if I hold it up at arms length it does a fine job of occluding it.

That, plus media loves fueling the anger/division machine because it drives engagement, even if it distorts people's perception of reality and other people, and even if it's innately dishonest and harmful. Unplug and talk to people offline and unless they're terminally online they're not like this
December 21, 2024 at 4:03 PM
As with all things internet, the people enjoying content are too busy playing or watching it to go online and obsessively shitpost about it. It's a filter effect that makes it seem like everyone is a drooling hyper critical moron who neglects the ass wiping portion of their hygiene routine.

I believe they were hired actors, that's why his best friend from childhood was in on the whole thing.

Wind erosion from all the fine grit dust carried in Martian sandstorms
December 16, 2024 at 10:54 PM
Well wind erosion from carried particles is very similar to water erosion, as both are from particles carried in a fluid. Also, Mars has very fine dust as there are no plants to absorb and hold it in place, and no ocean for it to fall into, so it just builds up.

Yeah, I haven't even touched photo editing yet. I was going to wait until I got a good scope to hook up my DSLR, my little 2.7" scope struggles to handle the weight of my phone mount, I think a DSLR would put too much weight on the eyepiece. (Plus I already have to hang a 5 lb dumbell to balance)

Or, alternatively, that actual drones (like the military or consumer qaudrocoptors/fixed wing drones) in the sky are somehow alien drones. Then they fight you if you mention it. Like, in the 70s maybe seeing lights in the sky would be spooky but we literally have drone fireworks displays now

Damn, life goals. I'm on a 70mm refractor with a cell phone camera. It's interesting how smooth the surface appears compared to what you can get with your rig
December 14, 2024 at 9:29 AM
Well dang, your camera with a telephoto lens captured about the same thing I got through my telescope. That's nuts, I didn't realize you could get that kind of resolution

People don't spend billions on their security cameras.

"A friend of a friend told me" is probably the worst citation style, unless you count "it's just common sense for it to work that way"

I played ret paladin in vanilla wow, sometimes you just have to have fun pushing a "wrong" build to it's utmost potential using every cheat and trick in the book.

I'm with you on this one, it's also hard to say what effects they have or have not had since there are so many confounding variables. All I know is my family and friends reference the labels frequently when shopping, and we teach young families to do the same at my work

These collisions average out over time causing banding as mass outside the dominant plane is attracted, orbits through, and collides, adding its angular momentum to the dominant spin direction. Over time orbits become circular through random collisions and you have a disk.
December 10, 2024 at 6:06 AM
Well no, galaxies spin because as particles collapse towards a central point everything without angular momentum falls to the center, things with momentum form highly elliptical orbits. One direction has more overall mass moving that direction, and as particles collide they are likely to join

Post purchase surveying wouldn't capture people like me who alter their frequency or choice of establishment
December 10, 2024 at 5:45 AM
I know kcal labels only moderately effect what I get when at a restaurant, I like what I like. What it does is influence decision making around frequency of eating out or which restaurant. I swore off Orange Julius entirely after finding out a large strawberry banana drink has over 1400 calories
