the post-sale coverage here is funny bc like, this is just not true! and the museum has sold off a *lot* of work between 1987 and today, and some of those sales were way more objectionable than this one imo.

looking harder at this cady noland barrier from a different angle and suddenly the a-frames made me read it as a text piece

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

i really can't tell if it's funny or not that they made it feel like a ~branded sale~

genuinely fascinated by the take that the new Noland show "was a hit", although I don't fundamentally disagree.

but the show got exactly 2 (two) full reviews, one of them on a blog, one of them headlined that the show was "not as bad as you may have heard". that feels like the opposite of a hit!

it took them until like halfway through Fall to finally update this lol

this article (www.artnews.com/art-news/new...) reminded me of the Basquiat at SAAM that for some reason never got an accession number or put online. credited to the museum and the Schorr Family Collection, which afaik is not modern/contemporary. is it a promised gift? a loan? what does it all mean.

pleasantly surprised to have been wrong here, UVA making the right decision for once. incredibly happy for what this means more broadly if even the current BOV couldn't stomach this.

i dunno if i have the mental bandwidth to finish this blog post bc i included too many shows but i need to underscore how good eric n mack's show at arts & letters is

first I thought it was Elyn Zimmerman, then Mary Miss, then maybe Jackie Ferrera in a style I didn't recognize, then Richard Fleischner, but no, all of these artists just ALSO have an installation in the collection.

It's Richard Artschwager's Oasis, 1990. SIRIS listing:

also it should have been obvious but I just learned that Senga Nengudi makes exhibition copies of her R.S.V.P. sculptures. would love to know if the Hirshhorn has been exhibiting a copy when they've shown it recently or if they show the "real" thing (which itself is a refabrication from 2014)

shot in the dark but has ANYONE seen details on this Cameron Rowland work from Glenstone's collection before? fascinated by what this could be but I've never seen it mentioned.

No medium line in the online listing, just a picture of Rockefeller's name in what looks like the MoMA or Glenstone font.

fuck I tried archiving on Wayback yesterday in case this happened but it looks like YouTube's filters shut out the archive bot and wouldn't let it save. this is as close as it gets to loading now.
