Leftist from WA. Every couple years I find myself unable to resist yapping about elections and politics. Looks like 2026 is not the year for that to change.
(and adds to the list of leftward shifts in specials vs 2024)

oh councilmembers are all elected at large there, that's honestly even better bc if you take out the undervote, Annette won by 56.2% which is nearly the same share Na'Cole got, _and_ is a share that buttresses the argument that the city is continuing to move leftward
February 8, 2026 at 8:42 AM
Outgoing mayor endorsed Na'Cole and Na'Cole was already mayor pro tem so it's not an ideological flip. Still, this is a city that voted for trump by nearly 3.5% in 2024 so it's damn good news

I had no insight into the boundaries of the 4th councilmember place in the city so had no expectations but the more progressive side won by over 10% and that just seems pretty damn cool for a place within a city that only voted against Cruz by 2 votes in 2024 and voted for him by 6.2% in 2018

Na'Cole was already pro tem mayor endorsed by the popular outgoing incumbent so I was expecting her to win but 57% is one hell of a clear, and her challengers split nearly evenly for chump change too which is even better

(my intent is entirely lighthearted here, big ups to all poll workers you have an incredibly intense job)
February 8, 2026 at 4:17 AM
you must be joking
February 8, 2026 at 4:17 AM
yeah I'm going to dinner, maybe I'll come back to some news (or maybe I won't who knows)

and actually you could argue there's an element of disappointment here too, since he lost re-election for Jefferson Davis Parish - of which almost all is in this district - in 2023, but got 45% in his loss.
February 8, 2026 at 3:10 AM
aaaaand now it's 62.2% yeah this is oooooover
February 8, 2026 at 2:53 AM
another drop and it finally went down... from 61.9% to 61.3%

Not many precincts left tho so it's pretty much just about final margins
February 8, 2026 at 2:51 AM
it's still going up, jesus fucking christ lmfao
February 8, 2026 at 2:48 AM
how is she continuing to gain on margin with every drop lmfao
February 8, 2026 at 2:40 AM
Wow I thought Daigle would win somewhat comfortably but Martinez is absolutely crushing it. In retrospect I guess the signs were there in Daigle's complete lack of a campaign (he didn't even have a website lol)

LRT - or... maybe she's just on a glide-path lol
February 8, 2026 at 2:36 AM
It was probably just dem-friendly plaquemine dropping tbh. Still, any additional buffer for the unknown is good
February 8, 2026 at 2:35 AM
meanwhile, still nothing from Leander...
