Though in theory #Biomass is carbon neutral, in practice it's not, as it'll take decades to recapture the carbon. Furthermore, it contributes to soil degradation and #BiodiversityLoss.

What's best for animal welfare causes more environmental impact, and switching to low-carbon meat causes more suffering.

Without meaningful #ClimateAction, the #CarbonBudget for limiting #GlobalWarming to *an average* of 1.5°C will be depleted in 5 years at the current rate of emissions.👇

There's mounting evidence that #CarbonOffsets are not a reliable path to #NetZero.

While we need to support initiatives aimed at protecting forest and promoting clean energy, they shouldn't be an excuse to not cut down emissions.

May 2024 was the warmest May on record by a large margin, beating the prior May record set in 2020 by nearly 0.2C and coming in at 1.52C above preindustrial levels.

With 5 months of data in, 2024 is broadly on track (~75% chance) to beat 2023 as the warmest year on record:

I often think about how Haber–Bosch, which is used to make nitrogen fertilizer (ammonia) from atmospheric nitrogen, uses 1% of the world's energy; a crazy amount for one process.

But Shell's scenario for the year 2100 has direct air capture (DAC) using 13%(!) of the world’s energy.

In the past, warm temperatures used to come only after #ElNiño peaked. However, this time the off the charts records have been there even before the start. This may sign that #ClimateChange is altering climate systems sooner than expected, putting us in uncharted territory.
