Historian, Archivist, Photographer. Will happily chat about most things but especially about pirates, swordfighting, folklore, D&D, and the weird things you find in dusty boxes full of old stuff. She/Her 🏳️‍🌈
Just finished building a new dice tray. It holds three sets of dice and the storage compartment doubles as an phone/iPad stand. I’m so pleased with how it turned out!

Not me, a maritime historian, finding out today that my uncle apparently had breakfast aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald a few days before it sank. He was friends with several members of the crew! Apparently his Coast Guard vessel was doing a resupply run to the Fitz. How has this never come up before?!?

Mine would be navigating this part of the Pacific Crest Trail in Newfoundland on the one year anniversary of my friend falling from a nearby cliff and dying. Who knew you could hold a chain that hard?

That moment when you commit to a bit so hard you buy a shirt just to give your party a laugh.

Okay friends - I’m looking for a tarot deck, but I’m so sick of finding so much AI-generated art. Seemly like everything on Etsy and Kickstarter is AI slop. I’m looking for something natural and/or darker gothic vibes Can you help?!?

I would like to bring back chatelaines as everyday fashion items, please. I think life would be better if we could carry our little treasures around with us like magpies. “Here is my antique penknife. This is my emotional support acorn. And that’s my special super shiny rock. Her name is Elizabeth.”

Currently reacting to the state of the world by writing a paper on punk zines, Riot Grrrls, and body-positive feminism for a grad class. Pretty sure this isn't what my prof was looking for, but hey, that's what you get when you don't define what you mean by "write about information access."

Parenting done right! My grandmother had a shadow box full of a lifetime of trinkets. Which made my mom start one when she moved out. Which made my sister and I both start one when we moved out. Curating a collection of joyful things is such a special thing!

I saw her in 2016. She’s gorgeous!

Also footnotes. I love writing footnotes. And formatting footnotes. And helping other people make their footnotes pretty and nice. And finding snarky footnotes from long/dead authors. That’s the level of everlasting pettiness that I aspire to.

To whomever posted about the Merlin Bird app that happened across my feed about two weeks ago,

Thanks! It’s helped my anxiety immeasurably and made my morning walks so much fun!

My TLR is one of my favorite things. If you want to go down a rabbit hole, look up Through the Viewfinder photography. You can use a digital camera to shoot through the lenses of a vintage TLR. The results look like this:

Oh my goodness that’s so gorgeous! I make do with cactus flowers, but it’s not the same.

Today I went to my favorite weird antique shop and found the most amazing thimble!

Having an extraordinarily stressful time, which is making my body hurt & my skin feel like it's trying to crawl off my body. To distract myself, I have handwritten a thank you note to someone who went out of their way to care during a difficult situation. #NeverUnderestimateThePowerOfNiceStationery

One of my favorite sailing ship images from the Sunderland Antiquarian Society. A mother and child watch a ship navigating the Thames in 1880.

I’ve decided to really start enjoying the “special” things I have stored away for safekeeping. Life is too short not to use the good dishes and the fancy soap. First order of business - new drawer pulls on my dresser which have been in storage for years. I love them.

Today, I finally did a yard task that I have been putting off for at least 6 months. It took me about 30 min under the supervision of Lyle the yard lizard. And while that feels embarrassing, I also did it. So fuck feeling bad about celebrating little wins. We need the little wins right now. Go me!

Can any of my UK friends help me get a set of these?

Marigold and Bougainvillea in the rain. You can hear the rain dripping slowing from the leaves overhead as you scrunch your bare toes against the wet stones of the garden path. A beautiful morning moment from my garden today.

To be fair, that was a complete surprise to me too! But I did learn that some of them have tiny white moustaches…

It’s Friday! Let’s celebrate with a little blue bee butt!

The mason bees are celebrating the blossoms on the lemon tree today!

Everything is overwhelming, but the honey bees are happy that the lemon tree is blooming. Little things like this help.
