Colorado; historian, professor; study sports, the American West. Nebraska raised; U of Kansas and New Mexico grad. Happily married.
In the 80s I hung out with people who were James Dobson fans. Not my jam, but it seemed benign. Then I saw a ton of trauma coming out after he died yesterday, recalling physical beatings as a result of his promotion of corporal punishment. So disturbing.

Sending our boy off to UNM in Albuquerque. It’s harder than I thought it would be, but proud he will be a Lobo.

Happy Colorado Day; 149 and counting. I am luck to have been able to spend nearly half of my life in this beautiful state.

This weeks marks 35 years since our first date in Gainesville, Florida. We married in New Mexico, lived in Nebraska and Montana, and settled in Colorado. Two great kids, a perfect son in law, and two wonderful grand kids later and here we are.

July 1, 44 degrees, Rio Grande in southern Colorado and the sun coming over a new month. We are now on the backside of 2025 and I sure hope we see better than the first part. Not optimistic, but this view gives me inspiration.

This does not apply to most of you, but some of you are connected to the SLV or Adams State and might find this of interest. We are having a celebration of life for Ed Crowther tomorrow, a gifted and significant professor of history. 10:00 am Saturday, Richardson Hall www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjnC...

One of the most haunting sites in Nee Mexico. Dawson cemetery, holding the graves of some 400 victims of mining disasters in 1913 and 1923; two of the worst in U.S. history. #NewMexico

I was at DIA this week and saw the Lufthansa airbus pull up; the largest passenger plane in the world, coming from Munich. I can say that is a big ass plane.

Cloud-capped Spanish Peaks tonight, hopefully indicative of the much-needed gathering rain over the next couple of days in southern Colorado.

What is your favorite Irish whiskey? Green Spot (or red, yellow or blue when I have money to burn) and Red Breast for me. But I am open to suggestions.
