The final rainbow book list (for general audience) we ended up with - seeing it all together, it's whiter than I'd hoped it would be but I'm happy that we got a few locally published books in there!

Today marks the five year anniversary of Covid being declared a pandemic. Some things I want people to remember:

The threat is not gone. People are still dying and becoming disabled every single day

COVID is airborne. It’s always been airborne.

If you know someone suffering from Long Covid, reach out to them. Ask them how you can support them. Remind them they’ve not been forgotten. Wear a mask for them. They are counting on you. /end

Y'know, I love aging, I love being hot, and ugly and I only get hotter and uglier as I get older and I love it.
I don't love the feeling that arthritis is creeping after me from a corner like the hat man but

Ideally the list should be 80% fiction but I'm very tempted to make an entire further reading section of just memoirs

I thought that planning for a rainbow (adults) reading list would be a cakewalk compared to last months ocean themed one or the dystopia/utopia theme I've got later in the year but nope

why does the Internet not want to give me good, diverse queer book recommendations, from a range of genres that were also published this decade?

we've been streaming Te Matatini in the community space at work all week and the vibes have never been better

on the (predictable) downside, they did confirm that I'm cursed to be a sore tummy warrior for the rest of my days

shout-out to the specialist I saw today who prescribed me 6x my regular prescription WITH REPEATS, saving me at the very least $25 and at most several hundred

i know that there are left wing preppers but what if we all collectively decided to make the whole hobby woke and based on genuine local hazards while we're at it instead of unhinged power fantasies and conspiracy theories

y'know, ive been thinking a lot recently about the concept of reclaiming emergency prep from conservative weirdos - it's very logical actually, prosocial, community led, anticapitalist, self sufficient etc

zoomed through this graphic handbook "12 Rules for Strife" this morning and absolutely loved it - pick it up if you can get your hands on it. It's beautifully illustrated and gets right to the heart of workers solidarity and what needs to be done

I absolutely didn't spend half of my morning upsetting both my fiction and non-fiction bookshelves to curate a semi-aesthetic & general taste representative spread of my collection for a header image (peace has been restored and everything is back where it belongs)

in my local library system, they especially appreciate recommendations of children's books. I personally look for picture books and graphic novels by queer and/or BIPOC and/or otherwise marginalized authors and recommend y'all do the same

if you're looking for other things to do to support your library - request books! it helps the collections team immensely to have specific books and topics they may have missed recommended so they can build a broad collection #booksky

y'know, it could also be that i always wear a mask and people are weird about that for some reason who could know

plus, certain types of people underestimate your work abilities when you dress like a dickhead which is also hilarious

Catch me wearing the most horrendous outfit combo just because it made me giggle. Every day is a new opportunity to serve a bit and I love being my own jester.
