It's funny that naturists of the 50s already took the classic "end-of-nudist-area"-sign shots. Photo taken at Montalivet, where the Centre Hélio-Marin (CHM), the first naturist vacation center in Europe, was created in 1950. It exists until today.

In 1929, the "Lichthof Jungmöhl" at the Plauen Lake in Mecklenburg became the first holiday resort for naturists in Germany. Accomodation in the so-called "light huts" might not have been comfortable, but families could enjoy gardening, gymnastics, swimming and hiking in the nude.

Someone asked me if I'm getting a "great thrill" from hiking naked. In fact, it's quite the opposite: naturism is not like streaking or some kind of exhibitionism, which plays with the risk of being seen. Enjoying nature in solitude, without clothes, is pure relaxation and calm for me.

Naturism helped me to break free from body shame. When you experience non-sexual social nudity for the first time and understand that your naked body does not need to be stigmatized, sexualized and surrounded by shame, this feels incredibly liberating, empowering and healing.
