8 mile (13 kilometre walk from Hebden Bridge station up onto the moors to Stoodley Pike then back down the valley and up to Heptonstall (coiner country). Mixed sun, rain, cloud, wind. September, solo. Day seems to be taking a while to wake up. Day has probably had a late…

September, solo. Day seems to be taking a while to wake up. Day has probably had a late night. Butter yellow wildflowers are huddling between the railway lines, bunched up against the whirlwind of passing trains.

10.5 miles (17 kilometres) circular walk from Ilkley up onto the moor to search for rock art and monumental stones. Sun and rain, Summer, with son. Ilkley is one of my favourite mill soot blackened West Yorkshire towns because it has two of my favourite things; an exceptionally high concentration of prehistoric rock art, and an extremely good independent book shop called The Grove.

Pollurin was a natural harbour at the foot of Saksun village but one night there was a horrendous storm which blew tonnes of sand into the anchorage turning it into a shallow tidal lagoon.

Oyndarfjørður, Faroe Islands
A short hike through the village and up into the mountains surrounding Oyndarfjørður, on the north east tip of Eysturoy, one of the Faroe Islands. Around 4 miles, Summer, sun and cloud, light breeze. With son. It is summer holidays, school’s out at last and long halcyon days stretch out ahead of us. And days here are very long, because today I am extremely fortunate to be in the Faroe Islands, an isolated archipelago out in the northern Atlantic between Norway and Iceland.

Ever wonder what snow in the swamp would look like? This is 5 miles into the Louisiana swamps in the Atchafalaya basin... it's unreal... having lived down there for the first 28 years of my life, we never saw anything like this.

Smashed records.
