What do you imagine when you think about security?

For me, I imagine protecting the most vulnerable and ensuring the welfare of everyone by guaranteeing basic needs.
Cutting much needed assistance programs is what I would categorize as a human security threat.

Seems to me like the bare minimum we could do to house folks is tax wealthy corporations just a smidgen.
Really hoping this victory in Seattle spreads, on the long path to decommodifying housing.

Even for folks outside of anthropology, "How We Struggle" by Sian Lazar is a solid reminder that each of us have agency, collective or otherwise, in our day-to-day struggle.
Feels urgent to hold onto that.

Solidarity: a deep sense in one's heart that an injury to one is an injury to all.

If we start with this feeling, what are we expected to do when many are injured from arbitrary decisions that benefit a few?

The federal minimum wage is still $7.25/hour.

Republicans have held power, they have not raised the wage.

Democrats have held power, they have not raised the wage.

Both are complicit in the lack of action.

$7.25. Still. In 2025.

Unacceptable.

The freedom of movement is a human right, and no amount of criminalization will stop it, especially when life depends on it. Militarized borders and immigration "enforcement" only cause harm; our efforts would be better spent building care systems that can accommodate everyone.
