Um, there's no such word as "Hawai'ins," brah. The okina isn't used there, because it's not a Hawaiian word. It's only used with the place name, Hawai'i. That aside, your comment is right on target. Rich mainlanders have wrecked the place, especially the Big Island (where I was born & raised).

In Hawai'i this was in operation many years ago, resulting in a product called "Canec," which was used in buildings. The house I grew up in had Canec ceilings. Only problem was that the company put arsenic in the product, so termites wouldn't eat it. Thus it eventually became hazardous.

It used to be said that most of the cars that Ford built were bought by its employees. I'm not sure if that's accurate, but if so it's another example of a circular whatever-you-want-to-call-it.

One can only hope that Rosalind Franklin makes more than a cameo appearance, and gets full credit for what she did. I kind of doubt it, though.
