An inexpensive hand-held GPS unit would have shown where the border was. Oh, wait -- they'd have to begin by looking at a map. Probably too difficult.

Um, there's no such word as "Hawai'ins," brah. The okina isn't used there, because it's not a Hawaiian word. It's only used with the place name, Hawai'i. That aside, your comment is right on target. Rich mainlanders have wrecked the place, especially the Big Island (where I was born & raised).

Gotta say that $500k gets you a modest house in much of Hawai'i and maybe a nice two-car garage in Honolulu. Just sayin'.

Of course. But that wasn't my point. I was responding to the assertion that the US doesn't produce coffee.

I got one of these. Now I'm getting really rather good blurbs about my story collection, sent by people who want to help me market it. It must be AI but it's clear they somehow got to the heart of the book. I'd like to know how.

Lots of coffee grown in Hawai'i -- but hey, maybe that's not really part of the good ole US of A?

In Hawai'i this was in operation many years ago, resulting in a product called "Canec," which was used in buildings. The house I grew up in had Canec ceilings. Only problem was that the company put arsenic in the product, so termites wouldn't eat it. Thus it eventually became hazardous.

It used to be said that most of the cars that Ford built were bought by its employees. I'm not sure if that's accurate, but if so it's another example of a circular whatever-you-want-to-call-it.

One can only hope that Rosalind Franklin makes more than a cameo appearance, and gets full credit for what she did. I kind of doubt it, though.

"Demise?" No, I don't think so. "Really, really bad shit that will kill hundreds of millions of people and fuck up the earth's ecology?" Yes, you bet.

Too many people out there think that kinship and its terminologies are simple. Ask any anthropologist...they aren't.

Great shots, and they show the truth of the old saying "The best camera is the one you have with you."

The old saying, "The best camera is the one you have with you" nails it again.

Yes, Crimson Tinted is correct. Get a powered one and your issues will almost certainly disappear. They aren't expensive.

Fuck the AIPAC disgusting bunch of creeps.

This little prick has no idea at all what "satire" is. None. But then again, he has no idea about most everything (but imagines he does).

You talking IQ, right?
October 17, 2025 at 9:11 PM
Because you want that PhD -- simple as that. Maybe I'm missing something? I wanted to get mine done so I could go on to a post-doc and do more fieldwork.

My grad school advisor used to say "Your thesis will be your least-read publication, so just get it done."

I put it down, feeling as though I'd failed in some way. But that didn't make me pick it up again...and this was more than 40 years ago.

I think Trump equates "fishing" with "sport fishing," and thus some kind of hobby.
October 10, 2025 at 11:49 AM
Yes, he knows nothing about it. You nailed it.

Damn! I just wanted to pee without any overhead.
