Read “Dead and Breakfast” 💙📚

I *loved* this. A murder mystery being solved by an older couple? They’re vampires? One of them has a super over the top goofy Transylvanian accent in the audiobook? It’s peak, I’m afraid.
The book’s cover, featuring an illustration of the lead characters holding hands in front of a sprawling hotel. Synopsis: Married odd couple Arthur and Sal are totally normal. They wear sunscreen, not because the sun can kill them, but because even the undead need a skincare regimen. They eat garlic whenever they want, though it gives Sal indigestion. They can talk to creatures of the night, but only the raccoons that rifle through their garbage. Really, they don’t bite… except into delicious baked goods. Ready to settle down and stay out of trouble, the two have opened a bed & breakfast in the idyllic, if not-so-paranormal-friendly, town of Trident Falls, Oregon. But trouble finds them when the mayor is discovered dead in their begonias with two puncture wounds in his neck. With the help of a werewolf barista, the elven town coroner, and a very human city manager, Arthur and Sal will need to prove they aren’t literally out for blood by catching a killer…

Managed to punch out over 1k today‼️ here’s the unedited start of the mettatenna piece I’m workin’ on for one of next week’s prompts. Happy to finally have an opportunity to write Ramb.
The ice in Mettaton’s solvent mojito was starting to melt. He pouted at it, then ran a silver claw along the salted sugar rim and tucked it between his lips. Some of the crystals were as bad as the ice, gelling together in a gross smear (tasty, though.) “Alright, luv?” Ramb was at his usual spot behind his charming little work-mandated bar. “I can make a fresh one. Put it on your man’s tab.” He was busily polishing the same pint glass he had for at least two hours prior with a coarse looking cheesecloth, paws scrubbing with all the vigor of an elderly, rheumatic hound dog that Mettaton so loved to compare him to. Mettaton heaved a sigh. “No, no. Don’t let me be wasteful.” He plucked the bendy straw peering from the rim of his flute and sipped at it. ‘Glum’ may have been the flavor of the day, but Ramb’s flair for mixology was strong enough to slice through it, albeit for a moment. Cold honeydew melon washed over his tongue. He sighed again, fondly this time. “Fabulous as ever, darling.”

Remembered the time I visited an empty aquarium on new year’s morning and had one of those eerie experiences where a dolphin swam up and locked eyes with me for what felt like a million years. Hardest I’ve ever cried in a public space. ✌️

Wrote a super short n’ sweet narrative sketch for this. Classic mettatenna with a side of worldbuilding rules I made the heck up 🫡

Do any other ghost monsters know that they have exclusive access to the Dark World? It made sense, what with their infamous Schrodinger’s state, but no one had ever told Mettaton about it. Not his cousins, certainly. More likely he was simply the only ghost out there silly enough to fall asleep and slip inside his television in the first place. A flash, an electric pop, and a queasy feeling of being stretched and pulled like taffy. Legs sprouted from the hem of Mettaton’s torso. Arms lengthened into dancer-elegant limbs and stubby paws into beautiful frond-like claws and iridescent palms. Those changes and more came as Mettaton plunged head-long down into a sparkling pool so vast that terror would have struck him if the bliss of his metamorphosis hadn’t eclipsed it. Air sluiced through his hair, his hair! Oh, to have actual strands of real hair and not that hideous gooey mass that flopped over half of his face! Mettaton remembered laughing then. Despite the emptiness around him, he never heard an echo. The static and darkness seemed to absorb sound so effectively that he briefly brought a paw to his newly shaped lips just to make sure he wasn’t just imagining it. Had Mettaton been suspended in freefall for longer, he would have marveled at how human it all was. He had always admired humans for their versatility. Pastel green light pierced through the darkness. Mettaton cried out in surprise as enormous arms and squishy paws broke his fall. ”Whoof! Gotcha!”

FINALLYYYYY ran into a shiny and it’s the gayest, loveliest one I could ever want. Mettaton, I love you. I’ve taken you to six cafes (including the 100k one) and your friendship still hasn’t maxed but that’s okay and if anything feels very in-character for you.

The art is as splendid as ever, and I love most of the adaptation changes, from finally canonizing gay cats to changing Blackfoot’s name to Blackstep. But man…. you can really tell this is three books shoved into >300 pages.
