Useful idiots also ignore that PRC law requires foreign companies to divest 50% if they want to operate Internet services. Special Administrative Measures for Foreign Investment Access, Item 14: "... the foreign shareholding ratio of value-added telecommunications businesses shall not exceed 50%."

Some of my photos showing examples of Chile's amazing geographic variety from a recent trip.

Here's screenshots from the PRC government run China Daily showing that until this week, when referring to "Xiaohongshu" it has always used "Little Red Book," not "Rednote." Same goes for the China Communist Party sponsored English language propaganda outlet, Global Times.

Biked/hiked up Guanyin Mountain this morning and managed to get, like, maybe 10 minutes of direct sunlight. Never been more grateful for anything. . . . #taipeiwinternosunever

East Shore was a real gift. Here's some photos I took there a few years back.

Just added an article on Jiao Guobiao (焦国标) to my "Encyclopedia of Censorship in the PRC." Includes examples of Baidu and Sina Weibo censoring his name, and a translation of his "Crusade Against the Central Propaganda Department."

Went back to the Guandu, Taiwan wetlands and managed to get that Barbett and Kingfisher this time, as well as a juvenile Malay Night Heron and a Chinese Bulbul.

Biked about 15 minutes and spent an hour photographing #birds in the Guandu, Taiwan, wetlands before heading on to Costco. Also saw a Barbette and a Kingfisher, but the darn things just wouldn't sit still...

Rui Chenggang (芮成钢) beginning a rehabilitation tour? In 2016 PRC state media said he was taken away by prosecutors in 2014. These screenshots show just after that report, PRC Internet companies began censoring results for his name: blog.feichangdao.com/2016/04/baid....

Back from a long weekend in Alishan with the in-laws. Great hiking, but also lots of vegetable shopping. Decided to put the purchases to work to mix up a 100% local cocktail - Alishan "lemons," "fire" oranges from my neighbor's father's farm, and a shot of Kaoliang. Not half bad!

My interpretation of Yuan Mei's 題柳毅祠, 1736, a reflection on the legend of Liu Yi - www.redbeanopera.com/the-legend-o.... Criticisms welcome.

Some photos taken on a recent trip back to the US to visit family. Apologies for the poor quality of the Bald Eagle - was at the limit of my Sony RX10's zoom.

Caixin's "The Farewells We Said in 2023" (2023终有一别) was censored. I don't know why it was censored, but several of those featured had been censored in the past. Details can be found on my blog here: blog.feichangdao.com/2024/01/caix...

Some of the New Year's Eve fireworks over the Danshui river as seen from The Shack 野菇屋Pizza on the Bali side. Really can't recommend that place highly enough - gorgeous views to go with the great pizza and craft beer. maps.app.goo.gl/kZQq31eTF3yX...

Some of my first Taiwan birds of 2024. I was told by one of the (many) birders at the Guandu Wetlands that the one the lower right is a "Butia." Sorry its not very good quality as it was pushing the limits of my RX10's range. #birds

Lots of discussion on PRC websites re: claim that about 964 million people in China have monthly income of less than 2k yuan (我国月收入2000元以下的人口约为9.64亿) - finance.sina.cn/zl/2023-12-2.... Sina Weibo is censoring that hashtag, but not that phrase: archive.ph/MWfeH

Really great evening at the Tiger Mountain Ramble music festival last night. Got to get some nice shots of the sunset over Taipei, listen to a some terrific music, and do some street photography on the way home!
