This is part of the BeyondEPICA project. Extremely impressive setup of multiple analysis systems by the team, especially Liz Thomas, Jack Humby, Sarah Jackson et al. @bas.ac.uk

Was extremely exciting today to visit the team melting and analysing Antarctic ice more than a million years old in the BAS CFA analysis campaign. @bas.ac.uk @royalsociety.org

Our project “BeyondEPICA” collected ice at least 1.2million years old. Now we are meeting at this palazzo in Venice to finalise how it will be analysed to show us the climate and CO2 across this fascinating time period!

3. We find:
a. The Ronne Ice Shelf survived
b. But the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) certainly retreated .
So it's good news and bad. The ice sheet retreated but didn't do the worst case that some models proposed. WAIS retreat was probably mainly in the Amundsen sector, not the Weddell.
