I used GPay to make a transfer from ICICI to HDFC and got an acknowledgement from SBI. How? Did I accidentally use the wrong account? Checked carefully and nope, not my error. Some vendor to these banks used the wrong bank's SMS template! Data Protection Act? Haha!

Plausible explanation: GPay's "smart routing" feature made the transfer using an oksbi VPA for the HDFC account, so it went through SBI's infrastructure. Then they sent an SMS notification with the wrong template, thereby accidentally claiming it to be an SBI account.
