From Merriam-Webster:
Vulgar:
4: vernacular: the vulgar name of a plant.
5a: of or relating to the common people.

As for "monk," christianity doesn't have a monopoly on the word.

...Or, to say it the way I did when I was 20: "There's people out there...but there's also fireflies."

I'm sorry...what did you put on Superman's tits?
:checks the translation:
...Oh, you put something under your seat. Noted. Yes, I'll be VERY certain to learn that word next.

...Oofda. 😳😆
Learning languages with screwy wiring upstairs. At least it never gets boring...? 🤷🏼

Everything has to start somewhere, yes? I'll call him Tomas.

"If these shadows have offended, think but this and all is mended."

Point of order, Sir Puck.
One of the mainstays of the changeling exchange program is humans get a glimpse of magic; faeries get an anchor in this world. Shadows fade, but damage stays.

I just discovered how to create a custom palette in Procreate.

...I didn't know you could do that. That's it. I'm getting a book, finding a community class, something.

Re the CECOT segment "accidentally" being available in Canada...I would not underestimate just how pissed off Canadians are at the US right now.

Early new year's resolution:

Self, you overshare. I know, you get excited over a thingit, you want to share with friendlies before you forget...BUT.
We suspect you're driving people away. Those left get a heavier dose of a slightly more panicked...you.
It's a vicious cycle. Stop.

My Oma, whose family immigrated when she was a child, died before I was born. I asked Dad where her family is from.

I have a surname and a town & a warning not to expect much, that it's not like genealogy or even records keeping like I'm used to.

Okay...I think I figured how to say this properly, but the photo is gonna take a while to stage.
In the meantime, I gave my word I'd make gingerbread cookies this year.
...I get to eat the gingerbread scraps. Therefore, cookies win over photography.

...For meow.

I had no idea that Taylor Momsen from the punk bank "The Pretty Reckless" was the actress that played Cindy Lou Who in "The Grinch." So...the song whose lyrics break me every time...that's not just a movie sample...that's ALSO her voice.
That really drives it home.

I wonder if there are better...no.
...
History is collective memory.
Memory = context.
...
Context gives connection.
Connection gives perspective.
Leads to understanding.
If I could just...no.
...
Words are HARD.
...
I miss connection. I crave context. There's got to be a way to learn.

Merry midWinter.

"Give me your pain," said the Dark. "Give me your despair, your fear. I lay claim to your cold & your doubt. I HUNGER. Sacrifice their hold on your spirit. Give me my yearly due. Feed me and be free with my blessings," it whispered in the solitary starlight.

...So they did.

Someone else said it but it bears repeating:

"The Muppet Christmas Carol" is the best movie ever because Michael Caine treats the Muppets as fellow, human actors.

"Muppet Treasure Island" is the best movie ever because Tim Curry treats himself as a Muppet.

I stand by the sentiment of a 10-year-old me, when asked about time travel. It was the question, "if you could change one thing in history...?"

"Gunpowder doesn't get invented."

Some are suggesting you deliberately write inaccurate or confusing alt text, because they say this confuses AI scrapers that are analyzing images.

The purpose of alt text is to help people who cannot see the image. Deliberately misrepresenting the image is a gross misuse of alt text. Don't do it.

Screw it. Tilting into The Cackling. (Sorry, Mistress Weatherwax.)

I'm going to focus on the homestead, going forward. Hope y'all're okay with me diving neurospicy-head first into gardening-, forest-, & craft-related stuff, with homestead progress mess throughout. Absent-minded professor style.

I can't keep up with this insanity anymore. At least I haven't ordered seeds for next spring yet. Looks like seed saving & organic in practice as much as possible just got mandatory, at least as far as I'm concerned.
The EPA is starting to allow the use of pesticides containing PFAS on food. The move is part of an effort to roll back the regulation of PFAS — also known as "forever chemicals" because they don't break down easily in the environment.

I got a paper shredder for composting & mulching. I think I'm going to name it Gurgi, after the little guy in The Black Cauldron.
"Munchies & crunchies gotta be here somewhere!"

I don't know if I've said this before & it's probably gonna sound silly, but...

I'm finally starting to wrap my head around gardening, wildlife habitat management, and forestry. It all packs down to, "it's a puppy!"
(Ye GODS, I'm such a dog person.)

It sounds simple, but think onions & iceburgs.
