I know this thought would be so radical, it wouldn't even have occurred in the minds of these highly paid CEOs, nor the firms they pay millions for "consultations". But here's a suggestion they can have from me for free:

PAY YOUR JUNIOR WORKERS MORE!

I've sent in my complaint to the Fascism Broadcasting Corporation

I've complained to the BBC. Everyone should send in a complaint. Let's oppose their efforts to usher in fascism in the UK

Canvassing in Caerffili for Lindsay Whittle. I was motivated to go by Cole, his mum, & the people of #Caerphilly who held the fascist from Reform to account at the debate

Great knocking talking to people today. People in Caerphilly knew it's a two horse race between @plaidcymru.bsky.social & Reform

@electionmaps.uk nowcast is even better for the far right. Nothing to take comfort from.
June 25, 2025 at 8:54 PM
Deform will get close enough and the far right rump Tory party will take them over the line
June 24, 2025 at 2:52 PM
Sadly no, it's far right majority territory.

This is exactly why we at Bangor UCU brought a motion to @ucu.org.uk Higher Education Sector Conference calling for divestment of our pension funds from Tesla

The motion was overwhelmingly carried. Our members' pensions should not be wagered on what is effectively a meme stock run by a man-child

Also, in my constituency, voting for Labour means I'm letting Reform get in. And this is true for literally 100+ constituencies across the UK where Labour is helping Reform get in on current polling.

Observing a discussion led by @cefincampbell.bsky.social & @siangwenllian.bsky.social on post-16 education at @plaidcymru.bsky.social Spring Conference

The next Welsh Government must reverse the trend of diminishing Welsh HE & champion opportunities for young people to study, work & settle in Wales

Looking forward to the Undeb @plaidcymru.bsky.social fringe event at the Spring Conference tomorrow!

Diolch yn fawr to Claire Hughes MP for meeting with Andrew Fischer & me. We had a productive discussion. Look forward to working together for the benefit of Bangor UCU members & the city of Bangor.

Diolch also to @abarroscurtis.bsky.social & the Welsh Parliamentary Labour group for meeting with us.

We couldn't get it through the Higher Education Committee (don't ask what got passed instead 🙄), but we have managed to get a motion submitted to @ucu.org.uk annual Congress through Bangor University branch to begin the process of USS divesting from Tesla, Meta, and Alphabet. 💪

So how long before @schumer.senate.gov folds again like a cheap pack of cards and signs the Enabling Act?

Spineless Senate Dems are already more than halfway to full fledged fascism by supporting a MAGA CR that explicitly provides Musk Congressional approval to dismember the Federal Government.

It was just under 18 years ago that I received an offer for a funded PhD, made possible by government funding of research. Everything I've gone on to do is a direct result of this

I am heartbroken for the next generation of students who have had this opportunity taken away from them by Trump & Musk

Bijan is, as always, on point. Industrial action is the most powerful weapon we have, and it's important for it to be used wisely. Otherwise, our members view us as clueless amateurs & stop engaging.

If you haven't yet voted in the UCU NEC election, what are you waiting for?
February 24, 2025 at 9:56 AM
Thank you to the 250+ members who signed this petition. Sadly, UCU Left members on HEC voted this motion down: ucucommons.org/2025/02/13/m...

If you haven't voted yet, please vote for @ucucommons.bsky.social backed candidates for UCU NEC. To put jobs first, we need to overturn the UCU Left majority
February 21, 2025 at 10:53 AM
UCU members should be hearing about this from their branch officers soon. This is what UCU should be focusing 100% of our energy on. Reforming the broken funding model. Addressing equitable student distribution. Lobbying government.

Not squandering £200k on a doomed strike ballot on last year's pay

I complained to the BBC for its biased, dehumanising coverage of Palestinians

Innocent people have been held hostage in Gaza for 15+ months

However, innocent people, including children, have also been held hostage in Israeli prisons without charge for years

Don't dehumanise one group over another
January 19, 2025 at 6:08 PM
I submitted a motion to HEC calling to reject the pay offer but not ballot so that we could preserve our pay-related terms of reference and focus on the 2025 pay negotiation.

18 HEC members voted to proceed with a ballot that they were clearly told would get the terms of reference thrown out.
December 18, 2024 at 2:03 PM
We didn't need to even accept it. We could have rejected it and just not balloted on it, and focused on the 2025-26 pay negotiations instead.

I submitted a motion calling for exactly that and they chose to do the exact opposite.
