The one I hear the most from people who ironically usually have no contact with any youth outside of maybe their own children is that "kids these days are all anti social"

Another one young people get told a lot is that they are Lazy

Either that young people are lazy (often it’s just that adults haven’t tried to work with them / no youth friendly spaces / no relationships to encourage engagement) or young people are less intelligent than adults (just factually incorrect and an inappropriate metric by which to judge young people)

Youth work can challenge these by building meaningful relationships with young people, to build their confidence and also validate their experiences to allow them to challenge them and not internalise!

I collaborate with YP to conduct research in schools. We empower them to draw on their own and their peers lived-experience to improve their time in school.This counters the stereotype that adults are the only ones who can create new knowledge in schools! The same I believe is true in wider society.

Especially advice on sexual health … still hearing about too many old myths that are still being presented as ‘facts’ on social media .. scary stuff!
