@vpj.bsky.social
your government mandated CanCon. I like cities, stories, and flat-faced dogs. Sometimes I talk academic integrity. Sometimes I help with @terrorcamp.bsky.social. T'karonto. (she/they)
The instructors who still encourage the use of books are in those fields that the zeitgeist try to convince us are useless, dying. Hard time to be in higher ed!

I think you'd be shocked to know how many instructors ask that all sources be from peer reviewed journals, and furthermore, sometimes insist they not be more than 5-7 years old. There are times when it makes sense, but I do think there is an institutional trend *away* from books. A shame.

"I don't like this [canon classic]" that's not unhinged that is a mainstream opinion

Have you tried Pachinko, by Min Jin Lee? I'm nearly done Middlemarch (George Eliot) and have really enjoyed it. A final recommendation: The Colony of Unrequited Dreams (Wayne Johnston) - though this last one may be hard to find outside of Canada.

I know about it and I was thinking about it as I was making this post. I also remember you and my brother bonding over the concept of cans of ginger ale in Toronto and your enthusiastic reception of P explaining cans were superior b/c "they get cold in the middle."

Have you seen BBC Ghosts? Sitcom, would not describe it as "whizzy", smart but also goofy.

Part of me is furious I haven't leaned into derangement enough to write something like it. But mostly I'm feeling lucky I get to read it. Boy howdy. It's SO good.
