🌹Immigrants make America great🌹

I made a free downloadable coloring page/sign available on my Ko-fi. A small way to destress & show support to POC/immigrant communities during these turbulent, uncertain times.💖

#Trump is basically punishing those who tried to follow US law. This will only push undocumented #immigrants underground. It won't stop undocumented #immigration, just create a lot of fear/hate/distrust in communities. It will also increase crime as immigrants stop cooperating with law enforcement.
NEW: Of the 230+ Venezuelans deported to El Salvador:
• Almost half had immigration cases that were not yet decided
• More than 60 had pending asylum claims, some just days away from final hearings

These men had followed U.S. immigration procedures. Then Trump changed the rules.
He Came to the U.S. to Support His Sick Child. He Was Detained. Then He Disappeared.
Like most of the more than 230 Venezuelan men deported to a Salvadoran prison, José Manuel Ramos Bastidas had followed U.S. immigration rules. Then Trump rewrote them.

Taking me a while to finish reading What There Is to Say We Have Said, about the letters between Welty & Maxwell but it’s because I don’t want it to end. The deep affection, friendship and collabiration between the two is something that a writer can only envy and wish for. #writers #books #reading

I can't stress enough how close U.S. science is to the cliff.

"Numbers released in May by the National Science Foundation (NSF) indicate that if Congress approves the cuts to the agency proposed by the White House, the number of early-career researchers it supports could fall by 78%" (@science.org)
‘It’s a nightmare.’ U.S. funding cuts threaten academic science jobs at all levels

On May 2, 2025, the Trump Administration released its FY2026 federal budget proposal.

On page 39 he calls for the complete elimination of the only federal agency dedicated solely to supporting America’s libraries and museums.

The design visibly undergirding the entire administration: falsely branding anyone non-white as dangerous.

What's galling about the disinformation on #immigrants is that we have bodies of definitive research showing immigrants, including undocumented ones, commit less crime than U.S. born citizens.
Kristi Noem is seen as a "delicate, beautiful, tiny white woman" while leading DHS, yet Rep McIver was arrested for protesting it, and Sen Padilla was tackled for even questioning it. White women are protected, but Blacks and Hispanics are a threat, especially if they're in Congress.
The "delicate, beautiful, tiny" fascism of Kristi Noem
The right thinks Noem is the victim of Sen. Padilla's assault. But what about Rep. McIver?
