A flock of five chickens having some supervised outside-the-run time in a leaf-scattered autumn yard, pecking at the grass/clover/etc and scratching for tasty bugs. Two are white, one is white with black tipped feathers, one is a coppery red with a black tail, and the last is a dark red, just coming out of a molt so her old and new feathers are a bit patchy. Same group as the previous photo, rearranged a bit. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., earlier said the Senate will work through the weekend to try to end the budget impasse and reopen the federal government, which shut down when the 2026 fiscal year started without a budget in place in Oct. 1. Thune also said the Senate will continue to meet until a budget deal is approved. The Senate was scheduled to be in recess around Veterans Day, which is Tuesday. Instead, it convened after noon in a rare Saturday session, which was the fourth this year. The last Sunday session was on Feb. 11, 2024, for a vote on emergency national security appropriations.

The only butterfly I’ve seen all summer. 🌱
A butterfly resembling a Monarch or Viceroy is perched with its wings open on a bright orange tithonia flower, surrounded by more stems, leaves and flowers. Tithonia is also known as “Mexican sunflower”; a vigorous annual that can reach six feet tall with small but profuse bright orange flowers with large yellow centers. The more you cut it back, the more it flowers. The exposure of this photo is awful due to angle of the sun at the time and a crappy cell phone camera; some tweaks were needed to make it look less washed out, but the orange color isn’t enhanced at all, they really are that intensely bright. In the background is a blue house’s front yard, driveway and door, framed at the top by tree branches with summer-to-autumn leaves.

if your concept of "good" includes "some communities shouldn't get basic human rights", and then you piss and whine about "perfection" when those communities object to being dehumanized to appease bigots, you are entirely too comfortable with fascism to be part of this conversation.

He goes on to reiterate that in his opinion, some communities should lose their rights to exist in order to "defeat fascism" and somehow trust that these rights would be reinstated later. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to understand that this is how a fascist thinks.
