this is an interesting study, but it's immensely frustrating how autism is treated like a genetic black box instead of something that is also neurological, developmental and *sociological* in nature.

this group was *37%* of participants, the largest subtype! there are more factors at play here!

I couldn't catch the ribbon before it disappeared through my fingers, slipping through the bars of the railing keeping me from the river. It was hers, but perhaps it didn't belong to me. The wind carried its scarlet length trailing towards the water, carried downstream and out of sight. My fingers still splayed as if to hold anything at all, as if the image of her hair tied up might fade from view like the fragile fabric whisked away from me. It didn't matter now. My hands had made a decision before my mind could. I stood rooted in the spot, in the futile hope that something would return to me. When my hands began to tremble, I walked away.

been trying to write some flash fiction
Breathe in. The static doesn't dissipate, but it's the only fresh air you'll get. Tastes of metal on the tongue. Slowly, slowly, the white walls begin to feel like home. It's dark out there. The thumping slows. The sound bounces off your eardrums as your heart decides to settle down. You count your blessings. How many days has it been? All of them feel like your first, but there's been too many to count. The static leaves your lungs with an exhale of resignation, one of the few emotions your mind seems to remember. Not even awe lingers around anymore. The monitor gives you some options for landing, but home stopped being one of them long ago. The word rings hollow. Tastes bitter on the tongue. Maybe that's just the metal, though.

enjoyed Nosferatu 2024 but wished it gave more
my review of Nosferatu 2024: an enjoyable, unnerving watch, but it feels like less than the sum of its parts. I started to see the vision in the second half, but it was never pushed as far as Eggers has proven he can go- it coalesces into something where none of the aspects are as impressive as they could be. Lily Rose Depp gives a downright incredible performance but her fantastic physical acting is underutilized; the psychosexual angle is intriguing but ultimately slight; the presentation is gruesome, bleak, gorgeous, but never as gripping and ominous as it threatens to be. it sits in a strange no man's land where it has everything it needs but not quite enough in any respect. seriously though, Lily Rose Depp, god damn was she good in this

my review of Animal Crossing New Horizons: has a special place in my heart even if its hollowness does ring bittersweet as the years drag on. I was devastated when I realized I had forgotten to transfer an island with so many favorite villagers to a new Switch...and then I remembered that the endgame never really stuck with me, and that the joy and intrigue of the initial hours is what came to me so fondly. those feelings, too, have faded with time. I do check in now and again though, I usually end up playing again for a week or two; it serves its purpose as a pick-me-up, until it wears out its welcome. I haven't played New Leaf in a while. maybe I should check up on them too, I miss those guys.
