Interesting angle! We have some concerns about our eldest (7) and are going through the steps to investigate, but it’s a slooooow process here in Tas - waitlists galore to see anyone, even privately 🙁

Thank you! I’ll check out your newsletter- have gone down the NA-beer rabbit hole this last year. They’ve gotten so good! 😊

Thanks Jim - I tried moderating a few times and managed OK, but it was a lot of mental overhead. You’ve nailed it - so much simpler just not to take that first one.

So if you have a nagging little voice that's suggesting maybe a break might not hurt, I can thoroughly recommend indulging it for at least a few weeks. And feel free to shoot me a message if you want to chat about it. /end

And honestly, stopping HAS made a lot of things better. Blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, liver enzyme levels, sleep, concentration, mood... all vastly improved. I'm a better dad, a better husband, a better professional. Not perfect on any of those fronts by any stretch - but WAY better. /6

I don't want to evangelise on it too hard, but if you've known me (especially in my band days - eek) you'll know that a year (and counting) without grog is actually pretty remarkable. /5

So I had a non-alcoholic beer with dinner instead (pictured at the top of the thread), and am now winding up the evening with a cup of tea as I noodle around on some song ideas, like a proper boring middle-aged man 😁 /4

One month became two, then three, and then last night I clicked over a whole year between drinks. And while there was a small latent part of me deep inside that was tempted to celebrate that milestone with a "proper" drink, it turns out I didn't really feel like it anymore! /3

A doctor's visit and some bloodwork in the following weeks further cemented my resolve to take a little breather. I think even then I thought *maybe* I might keep it rolling, but that full month was the goal I set myself. /2

Not 100% sure what I've posted them for, other than that I'm super proud of the work, and there's not really any other way to see most of it now. And I'm still kind of feeling out how I'm going to be using BlueSky, so I figured what the hell 🙂

Last opening theme for now is "Moments of Clarity" - an animated web-series for grown-ups, created by Tim Logan & Jess Murray, and starring Gen Fricker, Luke McGregor, Nina Oyama and a bunch of other people not on Bsky yet. More people should have seen this - it was brilliant.

The last full series I worked on (before the then-government kneecapped the kids TV production industry) was "Dumbotz". This was to robots what Fanshaw and Crudnut was to alien slugs. There's some chiptunes stuff here, some sampled speak-n-spell, some floppy disk drives... you name it.

Maybe my favourite: "Fanshaw and Crudnut" was another kids series about two inept alien slugs who get into misadventures. This is from the Christmas special. Ridiculous, surreal, absurd fun. I started by cribbing mercilessly from ZZ Top, then added orchestra and theremin and went from there.

This was my first series on music back in 2013. "Buzz Bumble" - a cartoon about a bunch of bugs putting on theatre shows in a cardboard box. An early draft had a dozen overdubbed kazoos, but we landed on this sung version. Singing in character is great fun 🙂

I was going to say it’s prime time for us Australians, but you kind of already covered us off…

Ahhhh! My apologies then - and thanks ☺️

Oh, you may well have done - I just did a quick skim and didn’t see, but I’m quite adept at missing stuff 🙂

Hi Ruth, if you’re still compiling this I’d love to get a look in - still rebuilding after a long hiatus and then finally leaving the bad place 🙂

So frustrating. I have four series’ of animated music/sound design work which aired once in Australia and then disappeared forever. Quite tricky to hang your hat on work that nobody can see 🙁
