Again congratulations Gabriel, doing cave monitoring is difficult, but he demonstrates an excellent grasp of the topic and handled very well the problem he was assigned to address 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
🧭UH alum Gabriel López (B.A. ’22, M.S. ’24) and Dr. Ny Riavo Voarintsoa published new research in the International Journal of Speleology exploring how stalagmites in Cueva Ensueño, Puerto Rico, record past rainfall and temperature changes.

And I am grateful for IAEA for supporting my efforts in this regard. We are working on data from Rodrigues (as sister island, very tiny tiny island) to expand what I found. (hoping for funding to train more students), I learned a lot by studying these novel proxies!
Thrilled to share Dr. Ny Riavo Voarintsoa’s new article in Applied Geochemistry:
A 3.5-year rainfall isotope record from NW Madagascar featuring 17O-excess—advancing tools for tropical paleoclimate reconstructions and monsoon studies.

Our research on d18O calibration in Puerto Rico revealed a seasonality bias in isotopic fractionation and different seepage effects on isotopes and elements. It belongs to the cave monitoring special issue! Congrats Gabriel! @uh-earth-atm-sci.bsky.social
